Hilary Swank to lead a new robot sci-fi thriller entitled I Am Mother

Earlier today, Variety announced that MILLION DOLLAR BABY and BOYS DON'T CRY actress Hilary Swank will join Clara Ruggard for an intense mother-daughter sci-fi feature entitled I AM MOTHER.

To be presented as a technological thriller, Ruggard will portray the first of a new generation of humans raised by “Mother” – a kindly robot designed to repopulate the earth following the extinction of mankind. But their unique bond is threatened when a blood-drenched woman (played by Swank) inexplicably arrives, calling into question everything she’s been told about the outside world.

Based upon an original concept from director Grant Sputore and writer Michael Lloyd Green, I AM MOTHER is set to be Sputore's directorial debut, with special effects technicians from the award-winning WETA workshop lending to the creation of the primary automaton.

In talking about Swank coming aboard the film, Grant Sputore has told Variety that "It is a privilege to welcome Hilary Swank to our film,” Sputore said. “She is a remarkable performer who always brings tremendous commitment and honesty to the screen. I’m excited about the journey ahead with Hilary and the talented Clara Rugaard.”

I AM MOTHER, which has already started shooting at South Australia’s Adelaide Studios, will aim to bring a fresh tale of sinister sentience to cinemas, much to the delight of sci-fi fans everywhere.
