Idris Elba responds to James Bond casting speculations from Sony hack

Idris Elba James Bond

One of the (many) things revealed in the documents from the Sony hack was that Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal believes Idris Elba should be the next James Bond. Elba has previously said he'd be down with playing 007 once Daniel Craig is done with the role, and recently took to Twitter to respond to the Bond casting speculations.

While there are some who would love to see Idris Elba as the next Bond, conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh had this to say about the actor possibly playing the MI6 agent.

Sony is suggesting that the next James Bond should be Idris Elba, a black Briton rather than a white from Scotland. But that's not who James Bond is, and I know it's racist to probably even point this out.

Limbaugh sounds a lot like the comic book fans who are pissed off there's going to be a black Johnny Storm in Josh Trank's THE FANTASTIC FOUR. It's been rumored Daniel Craig may appear in another James Bond movie after SPECTRE though, and if true, Idris Elba might be a little too old for the role by the time Sony starts seriously searching for a new Bond. Do you think Elba will get a chance to play 007 in a future movie?

Idris Elba can be seen next in Pierre Morel's THE GUNMAN on March 20, 2015, and SPECTRE is set to hit theaters on November 6, 2015.
