Apparently the crazy fog has lifted and New Line have realized that hiring anyone other than Peter Jackson to direct THE HOBBIT would be both lunacy and blasphemy. And those are two of the worst 'y's. Bob Shaye (the dude who said that Jackson would essentially direct HOBBIT over his dead body) apparently:

"When asked if it was true that company insiders had been in talks with Jackson's reps, Shaye replied, "Yes, that's a fair statement. Notwithstanding our personal quarrels, I really respect and admire Peter and would love for him to be creatively involved in some way in 'The Hobbit.'"

Yeah, that sounds about right to me. The LORD OF THE RINGS flicks made about fifty bazillion dollars in their opening hours and Jackson was a big part of it. Sure, Orlando Bloom was busy being dreamy as hell and Viggo Mortensen somehow made bitching about should he/should he not take the throne look cool, but yeah, Jackson. It was mostly him.

Sheesh...bout' time these two made kissy kissy and got over the whole argument. Peter Jackson is THE man to helm The Hobbit, and The Hobbit belongs to Peter Jackson. That's all that needs to be said. If Jackson isn't doind it...it won't work. It's like Patrick Stewart not playing Professor X...it just won't work!!

I never liked the LotR movies, i really dont care.



And i wouldnt mind seeing Sam Rami getting The Hobbit movie, i knew he wanted it, and i think hes good.

Oh, and a trilogy plus one is a tetralogy...you know, like the video game, Tetris? Sounds stupid, but there you go.

I can't possibly imagine anyone other than Jackson for The Hobbit. It just wouldn't feel right, it would feel.....dirty

plain and simple...
without jackson, this film will not only feel a great deal different, but it will disrupt the whole continuity with the lord of the rings trilogy. without jackson, there is no way of connecting this film to the rest of the franchise.

Although Jackson is waaaay overrated, it's true there isn't really anybody else who would fit do direct that movie (which I'm not interested in anyway)

Peter Jackson was and is the heart and soul of The Lord of The Rings films. Simple as. Anyone else put in the directors chair for this property would be monumentally pointless. Especially when one considers how adept Jackson was at handling all said films. Anyone else directing The Hobbit, and I'm certain the majority will simply shy away from it. I will be one of those people. Of that...

The only reason they're swallowing their pride now and trying to get Jackson back is because it's obvious none of the actors from the first three movies would ever come back unless Jackson was involved.



A Hobbit movie without Ian McKellen would be complete lunacy.

It has to be Jackson. It's not as if this is some un-related Tolken story. The Hobbit opens the door for the whole LOTR saga, and CONTINUITY is key here. You want Gollum to look different? You want Bilbo to be different? You want the look and feel of middle earth to be all different? You want the dwarves to be different? No. Lunacy. Take away the continuity and you might as well go...
It has to be Jackson. It's not as if this is some un-related Tolken story. The Hobbit opens the door for the whole LOTR saga, and CONTINUITY is key here. You want Gollum to look different? Maybe.
I love the Lord of the Rings movies and I think Jackson is a great director but The Hobbit is not LOTR; it has a very different feel to it. If Jackson does direct the Hobbit I hope he goes less grand epic quest and more darker personal journey (if that makes sense to anyone), with the exception of the final battle I hope he does that like the LOTR battles.
I love the Lord of the Rings movies and I think Jackson is a great director but The Hobbit is not LOTR; it has a very different feel to it. Jackson is a fair director, but why does he NEED to direct this movie? I think it would be better if the reigns were passed on to someone else who can both bring new ideas and also learn from Jackson (who should be in the producers chair).

i dunno
i mean i respect jackson, i think he does a good job and i could never do what he does, but frankly i can't watch the lord of the rings anymore and only saw each movie once. they bore me for the most part. granted i'm not a crazy fan of it since i never read the books and such, but they were too long. i think he did a phenominal job with Kong, and casting jack black was not only ballsy but...

Nowhere in there did it suggest Jackson was negotiating to direct it... creatively involved sounds a lot like executive producing to me. But then again, The Hobbit is the only Tolkien novel I ever read and enjoyed so I'd actually be interested in seeing it as a flick...but Jackson is a terribly uninventive director. The man knows how to throw together a giant production, but when it comes from...

The only the guy's got going for him is he really picks his projects and seems to be a genuinely nice guy (and is now involved in Entourage it seems)

I'm not saying that PJ shouldn't direct it, but unless he manages to show a little self-restraint and make a movie under 8 hours long, I probably won't bother watching it.



I have no problem with long movies as long as that time is paced well and keeps me interested. King Kong would have been awesome if it was 2hr. 10min. max. Return of the King would have been awesome...
