Cafe Society trailer Woody Allen Jesse Eisenberg Kristen Stewart

Hike up your pants, slick back your hair, and prepare to get lost in the wonderful world of 1930's Hollywood, as envisioned by Woody Allen. CAFÉ SOCIETY stars Jesse Eisenberg as a young man who arrives in Hollywood hoping to work in the film industry but finds himself falling in love as he's swept up in the vibrant café society that defined the spirit of the age. An international trailer for CAFÉ SOCIETY has just been released, which gives us our first look at Woody Allen's latest.

“Life is a comedy written by a sadistic comedy writer.”

Although I wouldn't necessarily call myself a Woody Allen fan, I'm always impressed with how he manages to gather up an impressive troupe of actors for his annual films; that's right, Allen has released a film each and every year since 1982. CAFÉ SOCIETY stars Jesse Eisenberg, Kristen Stewart, Steve Carell, Blake Lively, Parker Posey, Corey Stoll, and Ken Stott. The film has been selected to open the 69th annual Cannes Film Festival on May 11th, but for the rest of us, CAFÉ SOCIETY is set for a August 16, 2016 release.

Did Woody hire Emmanuel Lubezki?

It seems that way, because of some shots. It could be the lenses, though. Still, it gave me the impression that he either hired another D.P. or he's experimenting visually. As for the movie overall... You never know with Woody, even when you see a trailer. It could be great or terrible. Based on the negative reception that Jesse Eisenberg's performance in BATMAN V SUPERMAN received, the last thing he should do is play a neurotic character.

Allen usually has a hit every 3-5 years. This should be the one.

Despite having Eisenberg, and Stewart being the leads (and always playing the same interpretation of characters), this doesn't look that bad. But these days, Allen is hit or miss with me. I've enjoyed his recent dramas than his recent comedies as of late.
