Jurassic World 2 will be more suspenseful and scary than the first

Jurassic World 2

Next to STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS, Colin Trevorrow's JURASSIC WORLD was the biggest nostalgia sequel of recent years, which obviously meant that it would spawn its own sequel. While I did enjoy it, JURASSIC WORLD didn't blow me away as much as I was hoping it would, but as a sucker for dinosaur flicks (and Chris Pratt), I'm hoping that JURASSIC WORLD 2 will offer us something more. If Colin Trevorrow is correct, the sequel will be bringing back more of the suspenseful and scary elements which haven't really been seen all that much in the franchise since JURASSIC PARK.

While speaking with Jurassic Outpost (via Collider), Trevorrow teased that JURASSIC WORLD 2 director J.A. Bayona will be bringing his particular brand of skills to the sequel.

It will be more suspenseful and scary. It’s just the way it’s designed; it’s the way the story plays out. I knew I wanted Bayona to direct it long before anyone ever heard that was a possibility, so the whole thing was just built around his skillset.

One of the criticisms lobbed at JURASSIC WORLD was that it relied a little too heavily on CGI dinosaurs and, with very few exceptions, didn't make good use of the animatronic dinosaurs. Colin Trevorrow defended his use of CGI dinos in JURASSIC WORLD as the types of movements made by the Indominus Rex wouldn't be easily attainable by an animatronic model.

I think the lack of animatronics in Jurassic World had more to do with the physicality of the Indominus, the way the animal moved. It was very fast and fluid, it ran a lot, and needed to move its arms and legs and neck and tail all at once. It wasn’t a lumbering creature.

Thankfully it looks as though we can expect a little more animatronic goodness in the sequel.

We’ve written some opportunities for animatronics into [Jurassic World 2]—because it has to start at the script level—and I can definitely tell you that Bayona has the same priorities, he is all about going practical whenever possible. There will be animatronics for sure. We’ll follow the same general rule as all of the films in the franchise which is the animatronic dinosaurs are best used when standing still or moving at the hips or the neck. They can’t run or perform complex physical actions, and anything beyond that you go to animation. The same rules applied in Jurassic Park.

JURASSIC WORLD 2 will hit theaters on June 22, 2018.

I've never even seen JW

You know why? they've taken that "rampaging genetically engineered dinosaurs in a park" idea as far as it could go with Lost World. There's really no point anymore, except just to make more money.

Jurassic World was not only a stupid movie, but also a very bland and hollow film. The studio just shitted out a poor rehash of the first movie. Boring and forgettable characters, terrible script, wooden acting, no suspense or thrills, CGI nightmare, new dinosaur was a lame plot device, just a bad film overall. Colin Trevorrow was not a good choice to direct either. Bayona is a great director and I hope he does a better job with the sequel.

Massively dissapointed with JW. Pratt was likeable, BDH was sexy yet believable (until she ran in heels). Ending was predictable and lazy, the kids were annoying. Hopefully the sequel drops the kids (great action movies don't need a kid for child audiences to identify, so stop shoehorning them in)
, and makes it more like an "Aliens" type experience: balls-to-the-wall action with great suspense scenes.

I don't understand the hate for JW. Double so from the people who liked Force Awakens but not JW. Nostalgic references too subtle for you in JW?

Would you had liked it better with JJ Abrams directing JW too and having it be nothing but nostalgia porn? Grant coming out of helicopter on the island, looking to the camera and saying "Ellie...We're home." Another road attack with I-Rex and raptors in the kitchen because, you know, nostalgia!

"Trained" raptors and I-Rex capabilities were ways

"Trained" raptors and I-Rex capabilities were ways to create new ideas/scenes inside "jurassic" -concept. JW didn't have returning characters much because why would they go risk their lives again. It made in world -sense.

Jurassic World was great! But yeah, could have been a bit more suspenseful so they try to add that to the next.

JW was just too damn silly. It jumped the shark, then made the shark talk.

Jurassic World sucked so hard. And as much as I think Bayona is an awesome director I really dont believe that a studio will let him do something remotely scary and suspensful. Too bad because I would love to see that kind of movie.

Strange how people have turned on Jurassic World. Everyone seemed to love it in theaters, but now it seems cool to hate on it. I kind of get it, since I feel the same way. When first seeing it opening night, it was such a fun throw-back popcorn summer film. After another viewing, it doesn't hold up quite as well (how does Pratt being in the Navy qualify him to train raptors?) but I still find more good than bad with the movie, even if I think it is the weakest of the series. I really don't know

No, more people hated it than liked it from the very start. You are confused by the people who were excited to see it and those who actually saw it.

Jurassic World sucked. Chris Pratt is my man crush too, but it was a lousy effort and completely shallow and predictable. I don't see how a sequel on an already stupid premise could improve, but I guess we have no choice but to wait and see.

JW was garbage

Not just because the CGI looked like shit and nobody knows how to act around a tennis ball and green screen, but because the kids were annoying, the plot was dull and it didn't do anything new with the source material. Kids and Adults run from escaped dinosaurs. It doesn't matter how big or loud the dinosaurs are, its all the same scene over and over. Chris Pratt saved the scenes he was in just because the guy is likable but Ron Howards daughter is just a crappy actress.
