Kevin Smith would love to direct a movie based on DC Comics' The Question

Kevin Smith The Question Banner

Kevin Smith has been involved with a couple of cancelled comic book movies, and although Smith tells THR he doesn't think he'll ever get the opportunity to direct a CBM, there is one character he'd love to bring to the big screen: The Question. Smith says he'd want to do a "noir-ish thriller" take on the DC comics vigilante, and explained why he would be down for directing a movie based on the character.

I always thought if you were in an alley and f—ing Batman showed up you'd be like, 'Oh f—, Batman.' But if a dude shows up with no features and starts punching you, you would probably kill yourself in fear.

The Question (real name Charles Victor Szasz aka Vic Sage) first appeared in Charlton Comics' Blue Beetle #1, and DC bought the rights to the character in the 1983. While The Question doesn't posses any superpowers, he's a master detective and an expert at martial arts, and his mask is made of a substance that hides his facial features. The character (as well as Steve Ditko's Mr. A) was also the basis for Rorschach from Alan Moore's Watchmen. Do you think The Question deserves a feature film?

Kevin Smith's horror comedy YOGA HOSERS starring Johnny Depp, Justin Long and Haley Joel Osment will likely open sometime this year.

He said that he wanted to see that character in something, not direct it. He set this rumor straight yesterday. He still doesn't want to direct a superhero movie.

The Question may be better suited for a TV series. I think he'd fit right in with the characters in Arrow.

I want to "Like" this more but I don't have the time/ASD to pull the cache cheat. Just know you have the approval of a stranger.

No Kevin Smith but YES to the Question

Sounds like an interesting character. I love noir and would love to see a great take on this character with a muted color pallet. Not as muted as Sin City, but there's an interesting opportunity here to introduce him in another DC movie then spin him off on his own.

I never find The Question as an interesting character though.

Yeah, I'm down. Smith's really shown he can do a complete genre flip (with flicks like Red State).

Give him a chance, I say. The Question is a funky character who's awesome, give it to a guy with a different spin on things. I suppose casting Jeffrey Combs is out of the question?

What if the mask distorts/disguises his voice à la Bale, but instead of sounding like a demon with throat cancer he sounds like Geoffrey Combs?! Want!

Keep him the hell away from any comic property.
On a side note, has he ever taken a picture where he isn't bugging his eyes out?
