Kinematic Typography

First of all, thanks to ruggedly handsome schmoe Dean for sending us this great link to a niche subset of cinematic graphic design.

The documentary HELVETICA took an in-depth look at the influence of typography on the cinematic landscape. It's apparently a cool flick and taking a cue from it, the folks at "Always Watching" now introduce us to Kinematic Typography, in which select scenes from films are presented solely with sound and dynamic typography. The end result is pretty damn cool. Like really damn cool.

They have a a hell of a lot of videos but my personal favorite - one of Brad Pitt's speeches in FIGHT CLUB - is below. Check out the rest over HERE.

my favorite clip is from Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia, the "help me find some killing tools" one. I like how blood flows out of the house.

wow...

that was F-bombing awesome. wow. so simple in theory, too, but so well executed. pretty visceral.

i haven't seen Helvetica, but i've heard it's really pretty good. it's on my Netflix queue, but it's a ways down. for whatever that's worth.
