Liam Neeson will bring the funny for Ruben Fleischer's The Revenger
After close to eight years of bringing his own particular brand of action to the big-screen, Liam Neeson will be switching genres and dispensing laughs instead of bullets. Deadline reports that Neeson has signed on to star in THE REVENGER, a new action-comedy from Ruben Fleischer (ZOMBIELAND) which will be scripted by the screenwriting team of Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant (NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM).
There's no clue as to what the plot of THE REVENGER will be, but when you throw Liam Neeson, Thomas Lennon, Robert Ben Garant, Ruben Fleischer, and action-comedy together in a pot, it should give you a fairly good idea of what we can expect. After NON-STOP, UNKNOWN, and three films in the TAKEN franchise, I'm actually surprised that it's taken this long for someone to put together a film poking fun at Liam Neeson's aging action hero. Just toss in a bunch of funny people, let Neeson do his thing, and you've got yourself a picture.
Neeson recently wrapped up production on Martin Scorsese's SILENCE and Juan Antonio Bayona's A MONSTER CALLS, but there's no word on when production on THE REVENGERS might get underway. Ruben Fleischer also has a sequel to ZOMBIELAND in the works.
"Let's do some improvisational comedy...now."
