Mark Ruffalo working with Andy Serkis to perfect the Hulk for Avengers 2

05.01.2014

With AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON in production and STAR WARS: EPISODE VII getting ready to roll, there is bound to be some commiseration between the casts of Disney's two biggest projects. One that I did not expect but that makes perfect sense is a collaboration between Mark Ruffalo and Andy Serkis.

Ruffalo tweeted the following news about AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON a few days ago.

I would assume Serkis is helping Ruffalo with tips and tricks on how to create the best motion capture experience for the superhero sequel as he has become synonymous with the acting method thanks to roles in KING KONG, THE LORD OF THE RINGS, RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, and THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN. With Ruffalo's portrayal of Hulk now the fan favorite thanks to his dedication to getting the part right, I would fully expect it to get even better in the next film.

Joss Whedon and Kevin Feige have promised a much larger role for Hulk and Hawkeye in AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON, so I would think it is safe to assume things are going to get smashed to f*ck and back. Adding Serkis just makes me even more confident that this is going to be a better movie than the original.

AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON hits theaters on May 1, 2015 and STAR WARS: EPISODE VII hits December 18, 2015.

It's great that Ruffalo is getting trained by master Serkis, but frankly I think they ought to have Lou Ferigno do the motion capture.

Obviously there's the nostalgia factor that I think would draw some folks into seeing the film, but mainly I make this suggestion because there's a very real difference in how a body moves when you have normal muscles like Ruffalo, as opposed to gigantic built up muscles like Ferigno. So I think Ferigno's natural movements would translate better into a Hulk

I say this thinking that Ruffalo's Hulk is by far the best on screen incarnation of the character.

Couldn't ask for a better mentor and teacher for motion capture. Really shows how dedicated Ruffalo and Marvel are to perfecting the character.
