Marvel sets dates for five new films through 2019!

Jul. 18, 2014by: Graham McMorrow

The Marvel Cinematic Universe continues to grow with the announcement of five new release dates. This will take us right through 2019 if you can believe it. The studio already has placeholders for unknown films on July 8, 2016 and then another on May 5, 2017. This of course follows a third CAPTAIN AMERICA film already set for May 6, 2016.

Now they've gone and booked July 28, 2017, November 3, 2017, November 2, 2018 and May 3, 2019. Let the speculation begin! DOCTOR STRANGE is likely the July 8, 2016 release but anything can happen after next week's Marvel presentation at Comic-Con. Will we get a May 3rd, 2019 release of AVANGERS 3? What about GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2? Stick around JoBlo.com and I promise you won’t be disappointed; but if you are, write me (preferably by letter).

So to clarify, the announced dates are:

  • Untitled – 7/28/17
  • Untitled – 11/3/17
  • Untitled – 7/6/18
  • Untitled – 11/2/18
  • Untitled – 5/3/19

Take that all in folks. Here's hoping we get that Ms. Marvel movie being talked about once upon a time.

I think it is a concerning sign that dates are being booked for movies that don't exist and potentially sequels to films that is currently uncertain how they will perform. I hope the best for Marvel, but it is definitely insight into their mentality of how they are running things right now. Slippery slope if you ask me...

This sounds like an awful plan. Calm the fuck down Disney/Marvel! The reason Edgar Wright left is because Disney is making their Marvel movies on a conveyor belt. Films are an art form, they're not a daytime soap opera. Alan Taylor, Edgar Wright, Shane Black, and Joe Johnson have all left Marvel on bad terms. Why? It's because Kevin Feige is rushing out these films in order to hit deadlines.

No. It's still a business and there are still SO many characters/stories they haven't touched upon. Plus, since when is 2 movies a year considered a time to "calm the fuck down"?

I believe the "calming down" is referring to the fact that when a studio is booking release dates for films that don't even exists yet, it obviously shows they are making films to meet deadlines (since that is what a release date is) instead of making films organically as they need to be made (Look at Star Wars as another example of a film being made to meet a date).

I'm a big Marvel fan and love what they've done so far, but completely agree with you JediteX.

I'm excited about the movie Lucy. If it does well, I think it'll guarantee at least a Black Widow movie or another solo female movie. I would also guess that there will be a Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch movie. I can't imagine them only being used for A2. But I really want another Hulk. With the rumor of the end of A2, I guess that might be GOTG 2 - either way I don't care. But I wonder if Hulk, or that film, is what brings Thanos to earth for A3. Or I'm assuming he will come to earth.

With the new characters in A2, they already have a lot they can explore before adding new characters.
Not crazy for a Thor 3 though.

I'd assume one is a Black Widow movie. Wonder what else? Black Panther?

Never read any of the "Untitled" books. Marvel's taking a big risk basing their next 5 movies on the character.

I really hope one of these is a Black Widow standalone movie and a Ms. Marvel/Captain Marvel movie.

I reckon 'Untitled - 7/6/18' will be the best of the bunch.

a little confused, here...

First, I thought each 'phase' consisted of 5 films.
Then, phase 3 begins next year with Ant Man. So I guess, the first two are the end of phase 3 (last of 2017 being Avengers 3) and the last three are the beginning of phase 4.
And why are some people talking about CapAm 3, when we know it's coming in 2016 ?

My guesses are:

Ghostrider: Revenge of the Flaming Skull

Punisher: White Skull Redemption (reboot)

Captain America 3: Return of the Red Skull

Avengers 3: Attack of the Skrulls

SpiderMan vs Wolverine: Adamantium Skull Wars (or something skull themed)

So there's gonna be a Dr. Strange. And they already have the Hulk introduced. So one of those should be Namor and oh yeah, you know where I'm going with this...

I predict

The Vision 7/28/17
Dr. Strange 11/3/17
Hulk's next attempt 7/6/18
Guardians 2 11/2/18
Avengers 3: Thanos 5/3/19

I really don't think Thor needs another stand alone film. So I say put a character born from Avengers 2 into it. Shit, they may even go as far as give Loki his own movie if they wanna play with anti-heroes more.

Marky my words

Captain America 3, Thor 3, Avengers 3, Dr. Strange, and Inhumans will be five of them. And Iron Man 4 will NOT be. I'm not sure about the sixth, but I think Ms. Marvel, Nova and Black Panther are most likely (in that order).

Could you please give me more "carlification" about the Avangers 3? I had not heard of this franchise.

Awesome!

I'm sure somewhere in those 5 we can account for Cap 3, Thor 3, guardians 2, avengers 3 and then probably a surprise title.... Here's hoping it's black panther!

Great time to be alive for people who love comic book movies. I think 1 of those will be a big surprise, just like when they announced Guardians of the Galaxy.

Great date choices, only a studio at the top of their game could make claim for such dates, they pretty much got the 2 biggest weekends for every year untill 2019. I'm impressed but not surprised.

I'm assuming the five release dates are going to consist of Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Incredible Hulk 2, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and hopefully a Black Widow/Hawkeye spinoff.

I just hope we get to finally see a Black Panther film and/or a sequel to Incredible Hulk with Ruffalo.

Hey Mr Mysterious, did you know that before that sort of aggression can exist in a person there has first to be fear in them? I learnt that while getting my distinction in psychology.  I don't know what it is about Soloist that has you so frightened but maybe you should work it out.  Or you can go on showing everyone how frightened you are. Up to you.
