Matt Damon joins Christopher Nolan's Interstellar for a small, undisclosed role

Aug. 28, 2013by: Alex Maidy

Christopher Nolan is definitely a director that tons of actors want to work with and the cast of INTERSTELLAR is populated by a bevvy of talented performers who have previously worked with him before (Anne Hathaway, Michael Caine) alongside newcomers (Matthew McConaughey, Jessica Chastain). Now, another major star is joining the cast of the science fiction film.

According to IndieWire, Matt Damon will be joining the cast of INTERSTELLAR for a small role. Small in this case means Damon will shoot for two weeks of the overall four month shoot so his role could potentially be touted on the poster or maybe not amount to more than a scene or two.

Here's the synopsis:

Directed and co-written by Christopher Nolan ("Inception," "The Dark Knight" Trilogy), the production will travel the globe and utilize a mixture of 35mm anamorphic and IMAX film photography to bring to the screen a script based on the combination of an original idea by Nolan and an existing script by Jonathan Nolan, originally developed for Paramount Pictures and producer Lynda Obst. The new script chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.

INTERSTELLAR is shaping up to be, like INCEPTION, one of those movies we talk about right up to the release. Even then we may still not be certain what the movie is about. What we can be assured of from Nolan's track record is that it will be an expertly crafted mindf*ck.

INTERSTELLAR, starring Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Bill Irwin, John Lithgow, Casey Affleck, David Gyasi, Wes Bentley, Topher Grace, Matt Damon and Michael Caine hits theaters on November 7th, 2014.

A dream come true. I always dreamed of having Damon in one of Nolan's film, no matter the role. I hope Nolan would work with Hugh Jackman again in the future as well.

Everybody needs to get off Inceptions NUTS!

I know so many stupid people that think because they understand Inception that they are up there intellectually with Einstein. That movie was made so stupid people feel smart! I love it when people say " You know man not a lot of people get it, but its a dream inside a dream that's inside a dream" Don't get me wrong I Love Nolan and almost everything he has done (My favorite being Memento) and I'm sure Interstellar is going to be amazing, but Inception isn't a mindf*ck unless you are RETARDED!

Damon was considered for the role of Harvey Dent in the Dark Knight. Glad he gets to be in a Nolan flick after all! Shaping up to be a stellar cast, amirite?

I'm assuming it will be something along the lines of Michael Caine's brief screen-time in Inception. Regardless, I am stoked for this movie. The less I know, the better.

I can't think of any other actor in Damon's bracket that has worked with such a diverse and impressive list of directors, it's really quite amazing.

Damon has a nice list, but Leonardo DiCaprio has an impressive list as well: Nolan, Spielberg, Cameron, Tarantino, Eastwood, R Scott, Raimi, Boyle, Luhrmann, S Mendes, Zwick and of course, Scorsese a bunch of times.

Excited for this movie, but not a Matt Damon fan besides his role in The Departed.

The Following, Memento, Insomnia, The Prestige, Inception & Interstellar...

Ok, I'm calling it. One (or more) studios take all of Nolan's other awesome standalone films [excluding the separately released Dark Knight Trilogy] AND....
