Michael Fassbender joins the western Slow West with Ben Mendelsohn and Kodi Smit-McPhee

Michael Fassbender had to leave JANE GOT A GUN due to a schedule conflict, but the actor apparently still has a Western itch that needs to be scratched, and has joined the film SLOW WEST. It also stars Ben Mendelsohn (THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (THE ROAD, LET ME IN) and is being directed by John Maclean, a former member of The Beta Band. Since leaving the group Maclean has worked on a couple of short films (including last year's BAFTA winner PITCH BLACK HEIST that also starred Michael Fassbender) and SLOW WEST will be his first feature film.

Unfortunately, there aren't that many details on SLOW WEST except that it's a Western that will be set in Colorado, but filmed in New Zealand. More Michael Fassbender is always a good thing in my opinion, and Mendelson and Smit-McPhee are both excellent actors. I haven't seen PITCH BLACK HEIST so I can't vouch for John Maclean's talents behind the camera (I am going to try to find it today) but I'm definitely game for a Western starring this cast.

SLOW WEST should start filming towards the end of the year, and will probably be released sometime in 2014.
