Move over American Psycho, Man on Fire is also headed to the small screen

09.10.2013

Just in case you didn't get the memo, AMERICAN PSYCHO is getting the small screen treatment. At least it's not AMERICAN PSYCHO 2, right? No disrespect to Mila Kunis but that was a stinker. No one seems to hip on Patrick Bateman in his 50s acting crazy and preying on women.

If that doesn't do it for you, maybe a MAN ON FIRE series will. Yes another movie is getting the television treatment. Just add it to the list amongst AMERICAN PSYCHO, FARGO, BATES MOTEL, and I just found out that RAMBO is on there as well.

The Fox/New Regency TV adaptation will not directly follow the 1980 novel from A.J. Quinnell, instead it will also leap forward taking place, "18 years later, as Creasy and Pita reconnect, teaming up to take apart the cartel that was responsible for the kidnapping, and all the death and destruction that turned the lives of the pair upside down, 18 years prior."

The late Tony Scott directed Denzel Washington and a young Dakota Fanning in the 2004 film version. Writer for the TRON: LEGACY sequel David DiGilio has been hired to pen the series.

No projected premiere date was given.

Normally I'm pretty open to ideas like this. I was very open to the idea of turning Friday Night Lights into a series and that paid off in spades (IMO). But in my head, there's no way I can think of that this would work. First of all, didn't Creasy (Denzel) die at the end of the movie? How would he come back to exact even more revenge. And the fact that 18 years later they're going after even more revenge seem a little ridiculous? They got revenge at the end of the movie. And also, what

And also, what could possibly happen in this girl's life that she ends up as some kind of mercenary? Her father was a businessman and her mother was a stay at home mom, after the kidnapping wouldn't they be trying to keep her away from a life like that? There's just no way for this to make sense.

Not only did Creasy die at the end

(which I'm sure they'll come up with some hackneyed explanation for how he's still alive), but that cop killed the head of the cartel. The cartel was already dismantled. So that's two strikes against the proposed plot of this series, which means there is actually no story for this. Which means it's going to be stupid.

This girl is on fire

"Man on fire" is so overrrated. The movie is a hyperstylized trainwreck.
So guess who doesn't care for a tv adaptation?

18 years later? Oh, so the little girl will be twenty-something and sexy as hell now and the guy will be some old guy who stays in the background, gathering intel, while most of the focus is on the sexy as hell twenty-something woman who kicks all kinds of arse?

So, it's actually 'Woman on Fire'?

"Man on Fire"...is what you call it...I call it...the film that should have been "The Punisher that Thomas Jane's movie wasn't". Think they came out around the same time - bad timing for The Punisher me thinks. I don't often have issues with sequels ...but would prefer this to be a stand alone movie. The fact that Creasy dies...I'm pretty sure he died (unless I'm getting the final ending mixed up with an alternate ending or something) suggests a squeal in whatever form shouldn't be happening.

So now Hollywood is making series out of movies. There are no more original ideas. I thing in the near future we gonna have "Seinfeld Movies" (movies about nothing). Or how about making a movie for each episode of "Married With Children" or "The Young And The Restless"

ugh

You know as a republican I've gotten used to recycling a lot of shit, but it would be nice if the studios just stayed with recycling their crap on the big screen and leave the small screen alone. For once try not to act like a monkey and fling shit on every nice thing you see.

Man on Fire is definitely an underrated, emotional, action-packed movie. But c'mon, making a television series kind of ruins the emotional impact of the ending, doesn't it?

It would probably last one season, like The Transporter TV series.

I thought Cresay died? I thought the whole ending purpose was his life for hers.

Well obviously it can't follow the events of the film since Creasy dies at the end of the film.

But yeah, Bates Motel is a great show.
