New Sonnenfeld aliens

MEN IN BLACK director Barry Sonnenfeld will bring a new alien invasion to screens, adapting a book that isn't actually a book.

Sonnenfeld will direct THE HOW-TO GUIDE FOR SAVING THE WORLD, an action-comedy about "a loser who discovers a book on how to prevent an alien invasion and then has to put that knowledge to use when one actually occurs." Sonnenfeld shined to the loser aspect: "a non-action-hero guy -- not unlike me in terms of manliness -- and a woman who hates him find the book and have to save the planet from an impending attack."

What's most interesting is that not only did the script make this year's "Black List" (of hot screenplays, not secret Commies), but writer BenDavid Grabinski used to frequent the message boards at my old stomping grounds at CHUD.com, making him another of several internet denizens to graduate from "aspiring screenwriter" to "successful screenwriter" in the past few years. So keep hammering at those scripts, kiddies!

Extra Tidbit: The movie is set up at MGM, where Sonnenfeld made GET SHORTY, his only movie that withstands repeat viewings (in my eyes).
