New Tully trailer finds Charlize Theron as a mom in crisis

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Life can be rough, but motherhood is like going through it on Survival Mode. Sometimes you need a little help, and new movie TULLY finds Charlize Theron’s Marlo – a mother of three – getting some much-needed help when night nurse Tully (Mackenzie Davis) enters her life. The new trailer shows that Tully is there to help Marlo with more than just looking after the kids as Marlo comes to terms with the fact that her former fun-loving life has now turned a new page to something greater…and stickier.

Here’s the plot synopsis.

Marlo (Academy Award® winner Charlize Theron), a mother of three including a newborn, is gifted a night nanny by her brother (Mark Duplass). Hesitant to the extravagance at first, Marlo comes to form a unique bond with the thoughtful, surprising, and sometimes challenging young nanny named Tully (Mackenzie Davis).

The movie had screenings at Sundance where it has been met some great early reviews (though our own Chris Bumbray was not a huge fan), particularly ones that praise Theron and Davis for their chemistry. The movie looks funny and poignant, much like Jason Reitman and Diablo Cody’s past collaborations, JUNO and YOUNG ADULT. As a fan of both of those movies, I hope TULLY is of that sort of quality, which seems likely because Theron looks too damn good in it.

TULLY hits theaters April 20.
