New War Horse trailer features actor testimonials

Dec. 1, 2011by: Paul Tassi

Perhaps Dreamworks is a bit worried that the message of WAR HORSE isn't quite making it through the trailers, or maybe the cast just really loves the movie. Whatever the case, this new two minute TV spot has the cast of the film explaining why exactly WAR HORSE is such a powerful film.

It's an interesting tactic, and one it's hard to remember seeing in a real trailer, as opposed to a behind the scenes look or something. Watch it for yourself and see if you think it's effective.

It is Spielberg, so the film will likely do pretty well, but on first glance it does seem like a rather odd framing for a war film and regular patrons might be a bit suspect. Perhaps this testimonial trailer will change that.

Extra Tidbit: He should combine two of his films into WAR OF THE WORLD HORSE.

I thought this trailer was a joke first

I expected the Funny or Die logo to appear at the bottom of the screen but it didn't.

This is getting really great reviews and even this trailer doesn't look too bad. I'm on board with and can't wait to see War Horse!

This was worse than the first trailer! As funny as I found that one to be, at least it wasn't insulting. This however, was remarkably so.

I must confess that I liked the first trailer, but I agree with you on this one. Insulting is a good word to describe it.

i'm sorry, downvote me away if you want, but my girl and i saw the regular trailer before 'hugo' and we looked at each other and laughed and said 'that doesn't look remotely interesting.'

It's weird that the movie isn't even out, yet they're already releasing crappy throwaway extras from the DVD.

Honestly, it's a WORLD WAR, people EAT horses during world wars. This is dumb. And, if I see it, I'm going to absolutely loathe myself for crying.

...

This seems like a spoof that would have fit right in Tropic Thunder, albeit directed by Spielberg. I hope the writer(s) of the screenplay didn't pen the actors testimonials, if so, then we can all enjoy this "emotional journey of perseverance." I'm gonna' start crying while I'm throwing up and taking a shit while watching this "emotional journey of perseverance." I'm fucking angry.

I have honestly been calling this a spoof since I saw h=the first hysterical trailer. I am glad to hear others feel the same way!

I've got to admit, this film never really sounded that enticing to me. I love Spielberg, and I look forward to the look and feel of the film, but the story of a boy and his long lost horse in the war? Eh.

What a weird-ass advertising move. It's almost as if the marketing people are saying "We're not sure if Steve Spielberg or the actors did a good enough job. So to make things as obvious as possible, here are the actors telling you the emotions you should be feeling when you watch the movie."
I was actually up for watching the movie before this. But this "thing" whatever it is has added about 50% more schmaltz to the whole deal which has left me wondering if I actually do want to see it.
