No decisions made for the future of From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series

From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series

This is some disappointing news. I don't watch a lot of television, but one show I do keep up with is From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, based on the awesome Robert Rodriguez-directed, Quentin Tarantino-scripted 1996 vampire film FROM DUSK TILL DAWN. Last night, the third season finale aired on Rodriguez's El Rey Network, and that season finale may also be the end of the series as we know it.

While El Rey is having talks with lead producer Miramax about continuing the From Dusk Till Dawn story in some way, it's not clear in what way that might be – instead of getting another full ten episode season, From Dusk Till Dawn might return as a limited series or mini-series. No decisions have been made, and with Rodriguez busy directing the James Cameron-produced blockbuster ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL, a final decision on the future of the property might not come until sometime in early 2017.

In the meantime, the options for the cast have come up, and rather than keep the actors attached to a show in flux El Rey has released them. However, if/when a new From Dusk Till Dawn project does get off the ground at the network, it is expected that the series cast will be brought back to reprise their roles.

That cast includes D.J. Cotrona and Zane Holtz as criminal brothers Seth and Richie Gecko, Madison Davenport and Brandon Soo Hoo as preacher's kids Kate and Scott Fuller, Wilmer Valderrama as vampire Carlos Madrigal, Jesse Garcia as Texas Ranger Freddie Gonzalez, Jake Busey as the lascivious Sex Machine, and Eiza González as vampire goddess Santanico Pandemonium.

From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series has had some ups and downs over its thirty episodes, but I have found it to be consistently entertaining and was looking forward to a fourth season. Hopefully this current situation is just a speed bump and the story will continue on El Rey before too long.

While we wait to see what's going to happen, the original FROM DUSK TILL DAWN is returning to theatres on November 6th and 9th for a twentieth anniversary celebration.
