People at Marvel like their own movies, say Thor and Captain America are great

Jan. 19, 2011by: Mike Sampson

This will come as a giant shock to you, but people who are getting paychecks from Marvel seem to love the movies Marvel is releasing this summer! Both THOR and CAPTAIN AMERICA screened this week for Marvel insiders and those insiders have nothing but the nicest things to say. Let's take a look at two of the least objective movie reviews ever.

"Its funny, its exciting and theres great visual effects...Its just a helluva lot of fun to watch!" Sounds like the kind of quote you'd expect to see running in a movie commercial, right? Well Paramount and Marvel might want to think twice about using that quote in ads for CAPTAIN AMERICA as they're from Joe Johnston...director of CAPTAIN AMERICA. Yes, the director of an upcoming movie thinks his movie is awesome.

After viewing a full cut of the movie for the first time a few days ago, Johnston spoke to the LA Times and gave his review (hint: two snaps up with a twist). "There is so much entertainment value its just flat-out fun to watch," Johnston says of his own film. He adds that he was "blown away" by Chris Evans' performance in the film and says it has "great action." So there you have it folks - it must be good!

In other Marvel film news, THOR also screened this week and current "Avengers" writer and Marvel employee Brian Michael Bendis has seen the film and thinks it's fantastic. In fact he said on Twitter, "I have seen it! It is fantastic!" (See, told ya.)

I'll wait patiently until I read a review from a more impartial source but I suppose it's good to know that the Marvel people are drinking their own Kool-Aid...

after what he went thru with the wolfman Joe Johnston has every right to be proud of Captain America & i take it as a very good sign, really loooking forward to this movie. Bring on Thor also.

captain and thor

The captain America movie looks really promising and so does Thor to be honest but...and this is no disrespect to anyone involved in Thor but as a comic it works but as a movie I think this will be really hard to pull off but i hope they do.

To be fair, Johnston had nothing but negative things to say about his last film (The Wolfman) so maybe his statement actually does carry some weight. It at least says that he was in control of the production and not screwed by the producers like he was with that movie.

As far as which I think looks better, I'm going with Captain America. Thor looks okay but Captain America looks like it'll be more fun.

Keeping it Real

Im stoked about Captain America!! And to be honest I can't recall ever hearing a director comment on his own movie, soooo since he actually did, I'm going to believe him. Yes it comes off self indulgent a tad, but let's be real...it probably is really fun. I just don't want to see campy goofy shit. I want realistic action ya know what I mean?...anyways Thor looks cool too, it's the director that makes me wanna see it. And Portman....she brings class to the film.

Brian Michael Bendis

I'd actually give weight to his comments. I'm a fan of his. I love Powers.

I'm completely sold on Thor but Cap had better be more then just fun. He's a complex and deep character. It's the depth of character and depression era built moral values that make him interesting, not the action.

Off base!

Look up what Marvel insiders said about the Dolph Lundgren Punisher movie. Like what Stan Lee said about it!

Both movies sound and look fun, but I think the Cap Am movie will be better.

Thor hasn't sold me yet, but I'll definitely be checking out Captain America opening weekend.

Excited for both, but I am more excited to see Captain America.

I also think that Captain America will be better than Thor. These movies can't get here quick enough.

The quote from Johnston is irrelevant, but the support from Bendis is a good thing. The man knows what good story telling is.

This Sounds Like Total Bullshit

Neither of these films are due to be released for another 4-6 months, I refuse to believe that either is completely done.

Crap.

From the stills and my undying hope, I was really hoping for CapAm to be amazing and taken seriously...

Joe Johnston's remarks, beginning with "It's funny..." have now made me nervous that Evans has stuck to his comedic timing and inserted it into his non-comedy character...

I'm waiting on a trailer, but for the first time, I'm nervous.

Kool-aid....

I'd be drinking it to if each movie cost between $150-$200 million.

As dumb as it is, I believe him. I'm sure Captain America is full of entertainment value. Thor on the otherhand I don't believe. Sorry, that movie looks like shite.
