Rourke rides Horses

01.30.2009

Bad hair days aside, it must feel pretty good to be Mickey Rourke right now. Besides getting a prime opportunity in a meaty (if sweaty) role in THE WRESTLER, he's also getting the appropriate amount of critical acknowledgment for it.

And with that comes even more proposals, including possible roles in IRON MAN 2 (unless Marvel cheaps out -- seriously, $250k ??) and old chum Sly Stallone's THE EXPENDABLES, and now a crime story called BROKEN HORSES.

The project comes from Indian writer-director Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who is apparently the proverbial "big deal" in his home country. BROKEN HORSES, described only as a "gangster caper", marks Chopra's Hollywood debut and will film in New York and New Mexico. Chopra was fortunate enough to lock down Rourke before his Golden Globe win.

Extra Tidbit: One place you probably didn't see Mickey was in the long-delayed crime flick KILLSHOT -- the Weinsteins quietly released it in just 5 theaters last week.

Vidhu Vinod Chopra is known for his "realistic" fare in Bollywood. By realistic I mean gritty and hard hitting, although it still has the song and dance routine.

SIGH...

I remember when the Weinsteins first departed from Miramax, around the same time as Pixar was considering going solo from Disney. At the time I felt like the Weinsteins were cool enough, with their indie-friendly Oscar-baiting ways. They've since proven they know very little about the business. So, yeah, bad-mouth FOX all you want, at least they seem interested in capitalizing on their properties.

Wasn't he not paid at all for THE WRESTLER? I think a 250k payday would be a big step up for him.

cool cool.

But about that Iron Man 2 stuff....yeah $250K is low, but ya gotta remember the other huge names in those films and the BS they pull to get paid more. Rourke is only recently climbing back up the acting food-chain so naturally he wouldnt get paid as much

it is low, but youd think someone getting back in the game bigger would do a flick for fun, i mean jesus thats why these people get into acting; they can do it and they enjoy it...

then it seems some grow greedy and just
cool cool.

then it seems some grow greedy and just want millions upon millions. Marvel can only dish out so much cash to actors while still trying to MAKE the actual film

Anyway, Rourke is badass and i hope to see him and Sam Jackon in Iron Man 2 if they can just get over this money bullshit

The Weinstiens are a bunch of fucking loonies. I wanted to see Killshot.

but anyways, after seeing Mickey's excellent turn in the Wrestler today, I'm very much looking forward to seeing him in these big name flicks. Go Mickey!
