Sam Worthington may fight Chris Pine for Reese Witherspoon in This Means War

Jun. 16, 2010by:

If you're already suffering from Sam Worthington fatigue, better pop a couple of blue ones and just sit back and relax -- the Aussie isn't going anywhere for a long while.

Worthington is the latest wanted for the endlessly-in-development romantic action comedy THIS MEANS WAR, in which he would join fellow sudden A-lister Chris Pine (STAR TREK). The pair would play former best friends and black-ops agents who fall in love with the same woman (Reese Witherspoon), and wind up in an escalating destructive competition to win her heart.

The Fox project has been in the works for over a decade, with people like Martin Lawrence, Gore Verbinski and Bradley Cooper once involved (not to mention a small army of screenwriters). McG is the current director on deck.

Worthington (who also has a bunch of other potential franchises like QUATERMAIN and DAN DARE in his pile) may not be able to juggle the schedule -- he's also considering the heist drama MAN ON A LEDGE. (Apparently the studio's backup plan is Colin Farrell.)

Extra Tidbit: THIS MEANS WAR is being produced by Will Smith, whose HANCOCK also followed a similar revolving door development path over many years.

Stale

I dislike Worthington.. IMO he cant act. Anyways, this movie might have been good a year ago, but it seems like every single movie these days is like this. The Killers, Knight and Day, too name a few. I know there's another one but I can't think of it right now.

This Sounds Interesting...

Nice premise and I think the two actors' different styles will compliment each other. I can see Worthington as the dark, edgy underdog and Pine as the cocky, arrogant guy who probably starts putting on his work before Sam comes later to snatch her away.

Anyways, could be good.

Worthington seems like he was created in an actor factory or something.

Aussie hate?

Worthington was brilliant in Macbeth and the best thing about T4, in my opinion (which may be bias being that I'm an Aussie an all). If you haven't seen some of his early Australian films you've not had the chance to see what he can really do. Yes, Titans sucked big time, but really, does he deserve the hate?

Having not seen his pre-blockbuster work, I can only judge his performances in his American films. While not atrocious, he isn't terribly good either, as if all the charisma of a leading man was replaced with blank inertia. No need to stick up for your fellow countryman - I'm Irish, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers is quite possibly the worst actor working today. Don't be so quick to assume that a fair expression of opinion is a slight against Australians - you've got Guy Pearce, Bryan Brown and sundry

If we *reallY8 wanted to ridicule Australia, we'd bring up "Home & Away"...

He was great in Wright's "Macbeth". I'm American, but got lucky, and was able to see it. While I thought he was strong in T4, in "Clash" he was god awful.

Hi, I'm Sam Worthington and I play the same role every movie I'm in. Not to mention having the same haircut.

The real story here

is that they're making a Dan Dare film and it seems to have a tentpole budget. Hooray!

Does Sam Worthington just reply to every single ad saying "blank-faced man required for wooden performance in upcoming Hollywood movie project" or something?

The moment I glance away from his photograph, I forget what he looks like.

Chris Pine deserves better than this. This is like two steps back for him.

It'll be a new challenge for Worthington to add some charisma to one of his roles.
