Second trailer arrives for Niels Arden Oplev’s Flatliners

Is director Niels Arden Oplev's upcoming film FLATLINERS a remake of the 1990 Joel Schumacher film, or is it a sequel to Schumacher's FLATLINERS? It seems to depend on who you ask. While it looks like, and is being marketed as, a remake, cast member Kiefer Sutherland has said that his character is the same person he played in the 1990 movie. However, his co-star Nina Dobrev has disagreed, saying Sutherland's character in this movie is a different person.

Sutherland would have a better idea of who he's playing than Dobrev would, but is the character connection only his personal story for the character, not to be revealed in the film? Is Dobrev trying to keep the connection secret? We'll have to wait and see.

Regardless of what this new FLATLINERS is, what I can say for sure is that the latest trailer for it does absolutely nothing to sell it to me. The second official trailer, which can be seen below, doesn't pique my interest at all. The first trailer was more effective.

The original FLATLINERS told the following story:

At University Hospital School of Medicine, a group of ambitious medical students are about to die… and live to describe the experience.

Embarking on a daring and arrogant experiment, the five aim to push through the confines of life and touch the face of death. In their search for knowledge, however, the five discover the chilling consequences of daring to tamper with immortality.

SOURCE CODE's Ben Ripley wrote this updated take on the material.

In the cast with Sutherland and Dobrev are Ellen Page, Diego Luna, Kiersey Clemons, James Norton, Beau Mirchoff, and Charlotte McKinney.

The release of FLATLINERS is just three weeks away. It will be in theatres as of September 29th.
