Steven Spielberg confirms Indy 5 begins shooting April 2019 in the UK

Director Steven Spielberg and actor Harrison Ford may have a little more grey in their hair since they started working on RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARK all those years ago, but the duo is still ready to crack the whip and bring us more Indiana Jones adventures. When Disney bought Lucasfilm we knew a new movie was inevitable, and indeed, the fifth movie is coming summer 2020, and Spielberg has confirmed the movie will begin shooting next April.

Spielberg was given a lifetime achievement award at the Empire Awards this weekend, and during his speech, the director made sure to express his love of working in the UK. He said he looks forward to doing it again come April 2019, when he kicks off shooting INDIANA JONES 5 in the country. Tea and biscuits for everyone!

It’s always worth the trip when I get to work with this deep bench of talent coming out of the UK. The actors, and the crew, the chippies, the sparks, the drivers — everybody who has helped me make my movies here, and will continue helping me make my movies here when I come back in April 2019 to make the fifth Indiana Jones movie right here.

Shooting on the new adventure film will kick off in a little over a year, proving Spielberg is the hardest working director in Hollywood. The filmmaker released the Oscar-nominated THE POST late last year, has READY PLAYER ONE hitting theaters next week, and should be starting on the WEST SIDE STORY remake this year. Meanwhile, I am writing this in bed while refusing to put on pants.

When an Indy 5 was said to be on the docket it was rumored Disney may be looking to reboot the series with a new star, but soon it came out that Spielberg would be returning to the director’s chair, with star Harrison Ford once again donning the fedora. The last movie, KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL, received mixed reviews from fans but made almost $800 million worldwide in 2008.

The fourth movie wasn't great, but I feel like Spielberg and the gang probably learned a lesson from that experience. As for Ford, he may be getting on in years, but he proved he hasn't missed a step by reprising Han Solo for STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS. If the movie starts shooting next April we can assume we'll be hearing much more about casting and the story towards the end of the year, so stay tuned for all that goodness!

INDIANA JONES 5 is set for July 10, 2020.
