Taken will live on; prequel series ordered by NBC with Luc Besson producing

09.17.2015

Although Liam Neeson has said that he'd be willing for return for TAKEN 4, it feels like TAKEN 3 was our last look at Liam Neeson as Bryan Mills. However, we may not have seen the last of his character as Deadline reports that NBC has put in a straight-to-series order for a TV series based upon the action franchise.

Taken will be a prequel series set in the modern day and will take inspiration from Liam Neeson's famous line from the first film; "what I do have are a very particular set of skills, skills I have acquired over a very long career; skills that make me a nightmare for people like you." The new series will delve into just how Bryan Mills acquired that "particular set of skills" and became the character featured in the three TAKEN films. Unlike his film counterpart however, the television version of Bryan Mills will have no wife and no kids; then...who will be taken??

Luc Besson will be producing the series but the search is currently on for a writer/show-runner to handle the heavy lifting. Liam Neeson made such an impression as Bryan Mills that it's a little hard imagining someone else taking on the role, but I suppose we'll be hearing some casting news before too long.

Who do you see taking on the mantle of a young Bryan Mills?

I'm pretty sure the success of the 1st installment and the fact that there are sequels have to do with Liam Neeson. Without him, the show won't last long.

And with this, Taken officially beats The Hangover in the "should have been left alone after 1 movie" category.

If it was like 24 or Alias, it could work and could possibly make for a good show. But it probably wont be like any of those.

Because "The Transporter: The Series" was such a shining example of quality TV...

I want the old Luc Besson back.

Do I think an awesome TV show can be made from Taken? Yes.
Do I think an awesome TV show will be made from Taken? No.

What I do think they'll do is merely count on brand name recognition to sell the series and be sorely disappointed. They'll hire an uninspired showrunner and a lead who is neither as charismatic nor as intimidating as Neeson. They ratings will be lukewarm and they'll followup the lackluster first season with a second in hopes that it will turn around, but it won't, at which

Well, he could have worked as an extraction agent for the CIA. Maybe the producers can take hints from 24, and had one whole season about him trying to break someone out or him breaking out of a hostage situation.

Nope. Not necessary at all. I would prefer it as a continuation of the story like how Transporter The Series continues the life and action of Frank Martin.
