Taylor Kitsch is pretty sure he won't be coming back as Gambit for The Wolverine

Oct. 6, 2011by: Niki Stephens

Will Gambit make a cameo for THE WOLVERINE? I think that answer is pretty obvious. Did he make a "cameo" in the comic series written by Frank Miller and Chris Claremont? Not that I'm aware of. So why even ask? I have no idea but it's not uncommon for characters to pop up in storylines where they don't belong.

When Taylor Kitsch spoke with MTV, he already knew that Gambit would not make an appearance in Wolverine's Japanese adventure, "That's up to Hugh, if he wanted it. We'll see. I don't think I'm in it, I haven't heard anything. I got my plate full, man. I'm pretty happy where I'm at."

Then the actor said something that made me extremely happy. When asked about a possible Gambit spin-off, Kitsch responded, "I know if we do it, it'll probably be down the road and we'll do it hopefully a lot darker. I'd love to play him again, but it's a matter of doing it right, too. There's no point in just doing it for the sake of doing it." It was the last part that made me smile, "there's no point in doing it for the sake of doing it". Damn straight. I could care less about all that "darker" bullshit. That word is applied to every comic to movie property lately.

To take it a step further, I was not anywhere near impressed by Kitsch's Gambit. If they ever, for any reason decide to bring back Gambit, they should get Michael Raymond-James and call it a day.

I'd actually like to see Timothy Olyphant as Gambit. He may be a bit too old to play him, but then again, Renner is 40 and playing Hawkeye...

Josh Holloway for Gambit

Never liked Taylor as the Cajun. Always wanted to see Josh Holloway play Gambit. He'd have fantastic chemistry with Hugh Jackman's Wolverine because of the maturity, the attitude, etc. Perfect Gambit. And yes, he turned the role down because it was too close to Lost's Sawyer, but now that Lost is over, maybe he could reconsider?

I didn't really like him as Gambit, and he had a ridiculous hat that he at least didn't wear throughout the entire movie. If he's not in the comic, then he doesn't belong in the movie.

He sucked and so did Wolverine. Has anybody been watching the Wolverine cartoon on G4...?

Glad to hear it

I didn't like Taylor Kitsch as Gambit due to the fact that he couldn't maintain a New Orleans accent throughout the Wolverine movie. So bye-by and don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.

Good news, since I didn't care for his Gambit. Also, I find that quote hard to swallow since it's coming from the lead actor in a silly looking Battleship movie.

A better idea is to just forget Gambit even exists. He is the worst character in all of the X-Men comics. He had his little role in the Wolverine disaster, so let that be the end of it.

I do like the suggestion of Michael Raymond-James for Gambit. He would be another great choice.

For what it's worth I enjoyed and thought Wolverine was a really great, entertaining flick. I also enjoyed Kitsch's performance as Gambit, but thought that he wasn't the best choice for the iconic character.

If they ever do bring back Gambit in any of the future X-Men films then Josh Holloway should get the role. He would be the perfect choice.

...and not interested. He was the first choice to play Gambit and turned it down because he didn't want to be typecast.
