The Crow remake goes back to square one with Stephen Norrington off the project

10.21.2010

If you weren't into the fact that Stephen Norrington was directing THE CROW remake then you'll be happy to hear this news.

Norrington is no longer helming the remake according to Comics2Film who spoke to the director about the project.

A couple of days ago news came that Mark Wahlberg was being eyed for the lead role of Eric. Comics2Film went to Norrington to find out if the rumor was true to which he said this, "I don't know about that story but I can tell you I'm no longer involved with The Crow."

He told the site that an unnamed star had gotten involved with the movie. This star was into Norrington's concept and wanted to work with him, but later rejected the Norrington/Cave script collaboration. The star was apparently so unimpressed that he asked for a new writer and a completely different take.

Norrington added this, "As I had gotten involved explicitly as a writer-director my exit was inevitable. I was bummed. I had developed a genuinely authentic take that respected the source material while moving beyond it, and Nick Cave came in and added more depth. I think the fans would have been pleasantly surprised."

Obviously Norrington kept the star's name under wraps. He did say this on Wahlberg though, "I will say I think Wahlberg could be cool if they take a gritty blue-collar approach. He's a truthful actor. I think he could really ground the supernatural stuff."

After loosing 18 months, sad Norrington will now go work on THE LOST PATROL, "I'm also just about to start production on an indie animation/live action project, which will take a few years to complete."
