The logos are coming to kill you in this bizarre trailer for Branded

06.01.2012

I have been contemplating how to write up the trailer for BRANDED since yesterday and figured, f#*k it, I will let the Schmoes have at it.

Before you watch the trailer, know that this is a Russian produced movie and filmed with an English speaking cast. BRANDED stars Ed Stoppard, Leelee Sobieski, Jeffrey Tambor, Ingeborga Dapkunaite and Max Von Sydow.

Here is the trailer.

Still with me?

The closest description I could come up with for this trailer is THEY LIVE crossed with FIGHT CLUB and directed by David Cronenberg as a SyFy original movie. Yeah, that seems pretty close.

Plot: BRANDED is a dark and mind-bending sci-fi thriller into a surreal, dystopian society where mega corporations have unleashed a monstrous global conspiracy to get inside our minds and keep the population disillusioned, dependent and passive. One man’s quest to unlock the truth behind the conspiracy will lead to an epic battle with the hidden forces that really control our world.

The concept is interesting, but the special effects look very cheap which diminishes the message they are going for. The idea of hiding QR codes in the trailer to unlock special items is a cool one, but doesn't help make the movie look better.

If you are interested, BRANDED will open in limited release on September 7th.

Extra Tidbit: Check out Max Barry's novel JENNIFER GOVERNMENT for a much better take on a similar plot.

I'm in...

I'm still baffled by the trailer and I saw it like 4 days ago LOL. The effects were cheesy in some parts but amazing in other parts. Maybe they'll fix it. But none the less I am down. It's like men in black on crack meets they live for sure.

Giving it a watch for sure

but some of the CG shots are a bit iffy I agree. Still, interesting concept. More than anything I'd say it reminds me of Enter The Void though, not Fight Club. Hope it's good, but while I'll give it a chance it could go wrong very easily...
