Some clips have been released from THE MUMMY, and I have to say that I disagree with Universal's decision to put some of these out into the world. Glimpses of horror, action scenes, and character moments are fine, but there are things shown in these clips that I think should have been kept under wraps until the film comes out this weekend.

The film's synopsis goes like this:

Thought safely entombed in a crypt deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient queen whose destiny was unjustly taken from her, is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.

The new clips can be seen below. First up we have a scene in which Dr. Henry Jekyll, played by Russell Crowe, welcomes the hero (Tom Cruise) to the headquarters of the monster-tracking organization Prodigium… and the trouble starts right here, because this clip reveals a SPOILER about a certain character that I don't think viewers should know before they see the full movie.

Crowe also narrates the next clip, which provides some of the back story for the title monster, played by Sofia Boutella. We see the choice she made in ancient times that has led to her becoming THE MUMMY, and this choice involves an evil god.

Next are a pair of action clips – one showing an intense firefight in a small desert village, and the other giving away what happens during that zero gravity airplane sequence that has been so heavily hyped in the marketing. So much attention has been given to that sequence, I think it's another thing that should have been saved for the big screen. Of course, there's a good chance that the clip is much shorter than the sequence actually is in the movie, but even so… They should have saved it.

These clips are assembled together, along with a previously released clip and the trailer, in the fifth video.

Also included below is a featurette that focuses on the "global adventure" aspect of THE MUMMY, as well as a video of B-roll footage and bloopers. Finally, there are a pair of IMAX posters.

Directed by Alex Kurtzman from a screenplay by Jon Spaihts, THE MUMMY is intended to be the first installment in a cinematic universe being referred as Dark Universe, which is meant to feature new versions of Universal's classic monsters crossing paths over the course of multiple films. The second Dark Universe movie is set to be BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN, to be released on Valentine's Day in 2019.

THE MUMMY stars Cruise, Crowe, Boutella, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance, Marwan Kenzari, and Javier Botet. It will be in theatres this Friday, June 9th.
