Tim Miller to direct comic adaptaion of Gravel for Legendary Pictures

VFX guru Tim Miller has been hired by Legendary Pictures to direct a comic book adaptation of Warren Ellis’ GRAVEL, which follows the exploits of an SAS agent/Soldier-of-Fortune who dives deep into the macabe as a “combat magician,” wielding his unique abilities to fight off supernatural beings.

Looking at some of the comic book visuals certainly enlightens the tone of what the film could be and with Tim Miller’s visual sense it could be something really cool.  Miller is the co-founder and owner of Blur Studio, a CG animation company, which creates video game cinematics.  Most recently, Miller helmed the mind-blowing opening to David Fincher’s THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO and the studio has created cinematics for Batman: Arkham City, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Dragon Age, and more.  Quite an impressive array of work.

If Miller can blend his cinematics work with live-action, especially with the hyper-realistic/supernatural world of GRAVEL, the film could be, simply put, bad ass.  Certainly we’d all likely rather see Miller get to work on DEADPOOL with Ryan Reynolds, but until FOX gets their shit together and just greenlights the damn thing, we’ll just have to wait.  GRAVEL feels like a good fit for Miller, so I’d call this news a “win.”

More as this develops.
