Time to travel through time for a reboot of Timecop?

Sep. 20, 2010by: Dave Davis

We've been hearing about the possibility for a few  years, but apparently now is the time for TIMECOP. Again.

According to What's Playing, a relaunch of the franchise is barreling down the time tube thingy on its way to production at Universal.

The studio clearly thinks there's more to be mined from the material (even after a short-lived TV show and a direct-to-vid sequel) and believes TIMECOP 2.0 could be a "big-budget science-fiction blockbuster with a major star".

Director Peter Hyams' 1994 flick (based on a Dark Horse comic) is probably best known for star Jean-Claude Van Damme's kitchen combat skills and a vivid demonstration of what happens when two Ron Silvers occupy the same space. But don't expect the "Muscles from Brussels" back for any more temporal law enforcement.

Extra Tidbit: Sam Raimi was a producer on the first TIMECOP.

Maybe, to tie this to another article on this site, the Rock should look into trying to get in on this remake. Perhaps he could make the lead his own and create a badass action character that we'd like to see again and again.

lets do it.. some of these older action flicks could use a reboot. I just rewatched Universal Soldier the other day and didnt realize how bad the fighting was and the corniness of it all. however for soem excellent fighting and action check out Universal Solder: Regeneration. The plot is crap but the fight with Dolph and JCVD is well worth the 90 min running time.

this would be cool! I would be neat to have Jean-Claude back in some way or another though!

The original had a story, action, performances and FX, but is terribly dated by their version of "the future".
But the premise has plenty of potential so this could work very well.
