Tom Cruise may be the tentacle-fighter of Guillermo del Toro's At the Mountains of Madness
Guillermo del Toro is slowly clawing his way toward making pet project AT THE MOUNTAINS OF MADNESS become reality. And it looks like Tom Cruise will be fighting the sticky insanity.
We've heard Cruise's name associated with the project in the past (he and del Toro had also previously planned a new VAN HELSING movie together), but things have been reasonably quiet lately regarding the inclusion of any actor not named Ron Perlman.
But MTV sat down with James Cameron, who is producing GdT's 3D adaptation of HP Lovecraft's novella. "Tom does want to do the picture," Cameron said. "I don't think we have a deal with him yet, but we're hoping to get that closed soon. Guillermo is madly working on a new draft of the script. Hopefully we'll be shooting by June or July."
Cruise tends to be fussy when selecting projects (alas, not always with the best quality control), but can even he resist working with the talent of del Toro and the Hollywood clout of Cameron? Big Jim's comment sure makes it sound like the paperwork is being drafted...
Lovecraft's chilling story follows an Antarctic expedition and its discovery of a lost civilization, and strange slimy lunacy then occurs.
|Extra Tidbit:||It's a little bizarre to think that the work of Lovecraft could become mega-budget summer tentpole blockbuster material. But let's be glad it is!|
