Wall Street 2 teaser reminds us how far cell phones have come

Jan. 28, 2010by:

I know lots of people are fans of Oliver Stone's WALL STREET but despite numerous viewings, I never got into it. It's a powerhouse of a performance from Michael Douglas, no doubt, but the film itself never meant much to me. For fans of the original, I could see how this new teaser trailer would be a little rush. The way they reintroduce Gordon Gekko to the world is cute, I suppose, but beyond that it's just Shia LaBeouf looking rich, Gekko needing a shave, Frank Langella raging and Carey Mulligan surfing JoBlo.com. Over a thumping rock soundtrack. Check out the new teaser below for WALL STREET: MONEY NEVER SLEEPS below and let me know what YOU think...

Extra Tidbit: Is it too much to ask for a Charlie Sheen cameo?

The Lesson

This is a phone in. Stone hasn't had a hit in 10 yrs. Something tells me Douglas/Gekko learned a valuable life lesson in the joint. THAT IS THE TWIST. Transformers/Jones kid with go into a downward spiral of greed and then Douglas gives it all away to Haiti or some such BS. (kid learns same lesson just before the big twist is revealed.)YAWN.

I said Haiti..... I meant inter-city midnight [link] improvement. EXT DAY *shocked look on(place minority here) face* as Gekko hands over huge check or makes Shia do it as penance/teachable moment to stay out of jail.

Very looking forward to seeing it..

I saw the first movie for the first time last night and while honestly I sadly didnt understand all the financial talk and involvements in the film I did find it to be entertaining and a good film nonetheless. Maybe it was Douglas's acting as Gordon Gekko which kept me hooked and I'm glad he won that Oscar years back. I'm interested to see how this goes and am kinda hoping they still keep Gekko in a dark tone.

seems kind of obvious

If the subject matter, or its treatment, didn't appeal to you in the first place, why would the sequel? I personally think the subject matter: where wealth is generated, how, and its social ramifications, to be pretty interesting. I also think this is one of those areas where Stone has more fun than his political bio-pics.

But if some of you are "bored out of your skulls" - hey, I'm sure there will be a bevy of news about fighting robots, coming of age hi-jinx comedies, and epic 3-D

Timing, timing, timing...

the originals message was so profound because of the timing, coming out right after the unforeseen 80's stock market crash, and the sequel is poised to do the same, coming out with a movie about an unrepentive Wall Street baron who unfortunately represents our current unrepentant, unthankful real world Wall Street-ers!

I get "Wall Street" and its relevance to the 80's, but I never got in to the movie either. I sat down to watch it, attention undivided, and I was bored out of my skull. I won't be seeing this. In fact I expect this to be on my DVR when it comes to cable and eventually be erased for something more interesting.

I only have one thing against the film and thats shia. fucking hate him! But Douglas looks just as badass now as he was in the first film. I'm pumped for more greedy Gecko!

The Cell phone bit was FANTASTIC. What a great idea that was. Plus Michael Douglas actually looks alive in this film. Gekko looks like he's back to me!!!!

Will Gordon's robot be along for the ride?

Yes, that's right. He has a robot.

Lol!

I'd pay good money to see John C. McGinley pop up at some point at the broker's office and he's still trying to take someone to the Knick's game. :-)

The point with the rapper was...things have changed since Mike Douglas got locked up. The lesson will be: nevertheless, he's still got it, baby!

This is awesome...it's like a younger Bernie Madoff getting out of the big one and getting his revenge. Never saw the first one, but after this teaser, I never should have doubted this installment. Oliver seems to be back in his element...

Sheen's In

On an interview show here in Canada, called "The Hour", Michael Douglas was on a few weeks ago and he kinda coyly says that Charlie Sheen may be in the movie. Reading between the lines, Sheen's definitely in.

He says it around 8:06. (I don't know if Non-Canadian's can view this though)

I fucked up on the link, but just go there and search Michael Douglas and you'll find the clip.

I'm sold. I'm totally into the trailer. It looks fun and even more relevant than ever. Then again, I'm a LaBeouf fan. I think he's an extremely talented actor who just happens to pick big blockbusters that don't really showcase his abilities. Check out A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints if you wanna see him act. Plus you got Brolin, Frank Langella, Michael Douglas reprising his role, and Carey Mulligan who's not only a great actress but extremely cute. I'll be there when it opens.

The rapper?

That was stupid. The teaser looked stupid. The first one sucked anyway. The only good movie that Oliver Stone ever made was JFK.

excellent trailer. One of the few sequels that i am very much looking forward to. Can't wait to see Douglas back in action, not to mention the excellent cast additions.

Loved the first...

...But WAS NOT looking forward to this sequel... until now. Post Any Given Sunday Oliver Stone has simply lost his drive. This teaser leads me to believe that he's got his swing back. I'm willing to pay my $12 for this.

Shia looks out of place.. as usual. I'm kinda digging the tone of the movie and Michael Douglas but Shia ruins every movie for me.. I don't know what it is about him. I want to like him in everything but I just can't relate to him as a real person.

He came into the theater I work at in LA with his mom and was a total dick. He's REAL tiny. Not just short but like real skinny with an attitude. But I've kinda come around after forcing myself to like him. He can act at least.

Conflicted about this one

As a trailer its pretty fun and slick. But if that is the tone of the film, its a very different film from the original Wall Street.

It could be a fun film, but not really a sequel in tone with the original film...

Maybe that is a good thing...I don't know. I guess that is the conflict for me. Only one way to settle it - See it when it comes out!

I dig it!

I love the beginning of this trailer, and even though I'm not a "hip-hop guy", I thought the music worked well with it all. I think that for a teaser, it does the job of re-establishing GECKO on the scene, reminding us of who he was (love the giant-ass phone...money never sleeps, pal!) and how the world has changed now. I wonder if he'll send 2 hookers to Laboeuf's room this time. I'm there!!

what's with the humour?

bad teaser... I hope it's just trying to appeal to whatever hammy audience and that the movie isn't actually placyed out like this.

Should be a pretty damn good movie. The phone gag was funny. Still, I'd rather see Natural Born Killers 2. Coming soon, maybe?
