Watchmen... sequel?

09.18.2008
Apparently Hollywood, never one to miss a chance to squeeze an extra buck out of an idea, is open to the idea of making a sequel to the upcoming WATCHMEN. Oh I know, I was shocked too. Patrick Wilson (Nite Owl) spoke to MTV:

"It's all been talked about,... Financially, they like to do that. But all of us, [director] Zack [Snyder] included, all go, 'How on Earth could you do a sequel or prequel?' Certainly, artistically, I can't fathom how it would happen... But hey, if Alan Moore writes it, I'd love to read it."

Unfortunately studio heads added to the article by saying that if/when Alan Moore writes a sequel to the movie, they probably won't need Patrick Wilson or any of the other cast back anyway because we will be firmly living in the realm of unadulterated fantasy, where sentient computer programs have made paid actors obsolete, and Fascist alien super models have taken over the world outlawing the making of motion pictures anyway. So, you know, take this with a pinch of salt is all I'm saying.

Extra Tidbit: Just so you know, these clauses are kind of standard issue on films expected to make a ton, so don't worry about this too much, schmoes.

Don't watch the Watchmen!

The comic series wasn't that interesting save for Dr. Manhattan and Rorschach. The movie will be nice visually, but the story is not interesting. I'm interested in real super heroes. Not retired, middle-aged regular people vigilantes who gear up for one last hurrah!

Crazy.
If they manage to make one film a respectful version of the comicbooks it's something of a miracle.
If they then try to do a sequel... i'm hard pressed to think of a worse idea right now. This would be a good time to exercise knowing when to quit while they're ahead.

I love the universe in which the Watchmen take place. If they were do do a sequel/prequel I would be okay if they didn't include some or most of the original characters... as long as Snyder is the director.

Completely Surprised..

..that even DC hasn't tried to cash in and make SOME kind of offshoot of Watchmen (the ubiquitous re-issues notwithstanding)..

I'm also wondering about the movie's status..did Fox back down / get settled with yet?

So does this mean we will get to see Watchmen in march or what? Have they settled that whole mess yet?

Alan Moore won't write a sequel

not possible. But that won't stop the studio if they decide to hire someone to write one.

Never?

I would've laughed away sequel talks without hesitation if it wasn't for the fact that someone was stupidly daring enough to make a sequel to "Donnie Darko". So, yeah...there IS caused to be concerned...
