I'm hoping that THE MUTANT CHRONICLES ends up being one of those ambitious sci-fi flicks that sort of sneaks in under the radar and proves itself worthy (the PITCH BLACK approach). Having genre-friendly guys like Thomas Jane and Ron Perlman on board is probably a step in the right direction.

An official teaser poster for the movie has been crafted by artist David Allcock and, well, you have to respect a guy whose name is Allcock. The image has a nice scratchy propaganda feel to it -- the movie is set in a future where corporations have battled each other over natural resources. Jane plays an elite soldier leading a resistance against a new invading enemy who comes to pick at the leftovers of humanity.

The movie comes from British director Simon Hunter, who is aiming for a tone that combines "the grit of World War One and modern day desperation". And the grinning menace of John Malkovich. Bonus! There's more info and concept art at the OFFICIAL SITE.

Extra Tidbit: John Carpenter and BATTLEFIELD EARTH virtuoso Roger Christian were each previously attached to direct a movie based on the property.

This sounds pretty cool.

Not as cool, though, if John Carpenter had signed on.

Even if this film didn't sound cool (which it does), I'd still be happy, because in this day and age, any sci-fi is better than none!

There was some, like, 10 minute clip of this movie online at one time. If I can find it I'll say something but it was horrible quality. Despite the crappy quality the movie did look good. Jane was fighting mutants ...
