Robocop still on!! Dec. 19, 2008

Source: JoBlo.com

Yesterday we ran a story speculating on whether Darren Aronofsky was leaving ROBOCOP in his rearview mirror. This was based on comments he had made on Howard Stern's show and some other whispers I heard from my sources. Today though I was assured by a separate, highly credible source that things are moving along quite well with ROBOCOP, Darren is very happy with the progress and no one is going anywhere. So what's with all the rumblings? As I'm sure you know, Darren is out in the middle of a big push for THE WRESTLER. Since THE WRESTLER is a film with big Oscar prospects, he's doing a lot of work promoting the film. He, rightly, wants the film to succeed on all levels and what may come across as his unhappiness towards ROBOCOP is really just his unhappiness with constantly being asked about ROBOCOP. He wants to talk WRESTLER and is perhaps a little frustrated that no matter where he goes, he keeps getting asked, "Hey what's going on with ROBOCOP?!" So his less than enthusiastic responses are translated into speculation that he's unhappy with the film. So rest easy friends - behind-the-scenes Darren is still working hard on ROBOCOP. Just know that if you see Mr. Aronofsky out and about you might want to congratulate him on THE WRESTLER instead.

Extra Tidbit: Your move creep.

well Arvindh mate, thats robocop for you, he is human after all innit? That makes the movie dark, sad and harsh, if those sensitive elements wouldnt exists in robocop there would be no robocop, hes not perfect but hes doing his best. I think Verhoeven liked those ideas much more instead of a super robot cop, anyway arnofonsky has a great graphic and dramatic taste, the movie is gonna be fantastic like the first one in my opinion.

Good to know the remake still has a good director anyway. Muta's suggestion of setting it 20 years on from Robo's creation is a sound idea too. Murphy having to deal with being last gen technology would really work.

The comicbook used as the image for this article; I have the complete series of Marvel's run of Robocop (only ran to about 23 issues) - excellent stuff :)

Whatever small hopes I have for a new Robocop movie are merely based on the fact that Darren is behind it. In every other way I'm baffled as to how Robocop is even considered a superhero. Sure I had his action figures and his movies kept me entertained while they lasted but lets face it; the guy is pathetic. He's always sad, he eats baby food, he has seizures during fights and worst of all he's as mobile as a f*ckin' oak tree! I hope that they at least modify the guy's abilities otherwise I can't see how Robocop could work anymore.

In a fight, Terminator would incinerate Robo's iron-ass! Johnny 5 could kick Robocop's ass for that matter.

Acerbus III. this movie was great in the 80's. i just don't see how it could be that great today (special effects will be awesome). but Robocop seems (and fits well in) very 80s.

this is one of the worst unnecessary remakes out there. Robocop?? That movie is classic, timeless, and perfect! I understand there are those who don't like Robo2 (I like it) and Robo3 was an unmitigaged shitpeice. So I can see where it maybe needs a reboot. But a REMAKE? You are going to re-do that perfect origin story? Re-cast the villain? Ridiculous.
