A few years ago we brought you word that Baz Luhrmann was in talks to direct an HBO miniseries based on Stanley Kubrick's unfilmed screenplay about the life of Napoleon Bonaparte, with Steven Spielberg producing.

But last week a retrospective was held for the filmmaker at De Montfort University, and according to Stanley Kubrick and Me author Filippo Ulivieri, Kubrick's brother-in-law Jan Harlan (who also executive produced several of his movies) said that Cary Fukunaga of True Detective and BEASTS OF NO NATION fame will helm the six-hour miniseries. Apparently Harlan also said David Leland will be working on the script.

I wouldn't take this as confirmation that the miniseries will actually happen with Fukunaga directing, but maybe the project isn't dead like many assumed, and hopefully we'll be hearing more about it in the near future. Do you think Fukunaga is a good fit for to direct HBO's Napoleon?
