Michael Fassbender and BLUE VALENTINE and THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES director Derek Cianfrance might be joining forces for a new movie. Do I have your attention yet?

The Wrap is reporting Michael Fassbender is in talks to star in Derek Cianfrance's THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS, an adaptation of M.L. Stedman's novel of the same name. Cianfrance is currently attached to a few different films, however THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS will be the director's next project. It's also said Michael Fassbender will shoot THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS before starting work on PROMETHEUS 2.

Book synopsis from Amazon:

After four harrowing years on the Western Front, Tom Sherbourne returns to Australia and takes a job as the lighthouse keeper on Janus Rock, nearly half a day’s journey from the coast. To this isolated island, where the supply boat comes once a season, Tom brings a young, bold, and loving wife, Isabel. Years later, after two miscarriages and one stillbirth, the grieving Isabel hears a baby’s cries on the wind. A boat has washed up onshore carrying a dead man and a living baby.

Tom, who keeps meticulous records and whose moral principles have withstood a horrific war, wants to report the man and infant immediately. But Isabel insists the baby is a “gift from God,” and against Tom’s judgment, they claim her as their own and name her Lucy. When she is two, Tom and Isabel return to the mainland and are reminded that there are other people in the world. Their choice has devastated one of them.

THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS sounds like the perfect type of project for Derek Cianfrance, and I'm very excited he might be working with Michael Fassbender with his new film. Fassbender always delivers, even if the film itself doesn't, and based on the book synopsis I can definitely see the actor playing Tom Sherbourne. Who do you think should play his wife?

Michael Fassbender will return as Magneto in this month's X-MEN: DAYS OF FUTURE PAST, and his FRANK will be in theaters on August 22nd, 2014.
