Three clips from The Family starring Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Tommy Lee Jones

THE FAMILY is kind of a sneaky little film as it isn’t making a lot of noise when it really should be. You have three of the best actors from the last three decades for one; Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Tommy Lee Jones. You also have Luc Besson, who has finally gotten back behind the camera for this dark action/comedy after spending the last decade mostly scribbling away on high-concept actioners, but neglected directing the genre himself. It’s been far too long since the creator of LEON and THE FIFTH ELEMENT has delivered something along those lines and although THE FAMILY is a branch off of those genres, it’s nice to see him back in the playground. Today, we have three clips from his latest spread, which tease the possibilities of a really fun, silly, and action-filled jaunt.

Here’s the synopsis:

A mafia boss and his family are relocated to a sleepy town in France under the witness protection program after snitching on the mob. Despite the best efforts of CIA Agent Stansfield (Tommy Lee Jones) to keep them in line, Fred Manzoni (Robert De Niro), his wife Maggie (Michelle Pfeiffer) and their children Belle (Dianna Agron) and Warren (John D’Leo) can’t help but revert to old habits and blow their cover by handling their problems the “family” way, enabling their former mafia cronies to track them down. Chaos ensues as old scores are settled in the unlikeliest of settings in this darkly funny film by Luc Besson (Taken, Transporter).

There’s always the potential that this could fall flat, but with all the talent involved I’d like to hope for something much more. It doesn’t hurt that Glee’s Dianna Agron is in this as well, as it certainly adds some hotness factor for those that are concerned with just watching a bunch of older actors chew scenes for 90 minutes. Nope, they tossed in a hot blonde for good measure.

THE FAMILY hits theaters on September 13, 2013.
