Master of literary horror Stephen King, veteran television producer David E. Kelley, and Lost / CHILD'S PLAY 3 director Jack Bender have teamed up for a ten episode television series adaptation of King's novel Mr. Mercedes for AT&T's Audience Network. We've been tracking the development and production of this series for a while, and it's all building up to a major event that's scheduled to happen next month: the night Mr. Mercedes will make its TV debut.
We're less than a month out from that night at this point, and a trailer for the show has been released to give us a preview of the results of the King / Kelley / Bender collaboration.
The series has the following synopsis:
A demented serial killer taunts a retired police detective with a series of lurid letters and emails, forcing the ex-cop to undertake a private, and potentially felonious, crusade to bring the killer to justice before he can strike again.
Mr. Mercedes stars Brendan Gleeson as retired police officer Bill Hodges, Harry Treadaway as killer Brady Hartsfield, Jharrel Jerome as Hodges' teenage sidekick Jerome Robinson, Mary-Louise Parker as the strong-willed Janey Patterson, Holland Taylor as Hodges' prickly neighbor Ida Silver, Kelly Lynch as Brady's complicated mother, Scott Lawrence as Detective Peter Dixon, Robert Stanton as Anthony "Robi" Frobisher, Ann Cusack as Olivia Trelawney, Justine Lupe as Holly Gibney, and Breeda Wool as Lou Linklatter.
Mr. Mercedes will begin airing on Audience Network on Wednesday, August 9th. Audience Network is available on DirecTV, AT&T U-verse, and the DirecTV Now streaming service.
I don't have any of those, and this show looks so good that it makes me regret that I don't. I'm not going to be able to watch Mr. Mercedes. The trailer makes me wish I was taking advantage of AT&T services, which I'm sure was the intention.
