Update: Peacock has unveiled a teaser trailer for the MacGruber TV series

Update:Peacock has just unleashed a teaser trailer Will Forte’s upcoming MACGRUBER TV series!

While every streaming platform known to humankind is hoping to land the next big thing, it's been confirmed that NBCUniversal’s streaming service Peacock has given a straight-to-series order to MACGRUBER, starring and co-written by Will Forte.

Forte's MacGruber first arrived on the comedy scene as part of a recurring MacGyver parody sketch on Saturday Night Live. In 2010 Forte brought the over-the-top action character to theaters for a bombastic big-screen adventure, which also starred Kristen Wiig, Ryan Phillippe, Val Kilmer, Powers Booth, and Maya Rudolph, among others. In the film, former special operative MacGruber is called back into action to take down his arch-enemy, Dieter Von Cunth (Kilmer), who's in possession of a nuclear warhead and bent on destroying Washington, D.C.

When MacGruber blasts onto Peacock for an eight-episode season, word around the old water cooler suggests that the film's co-stars, Wiig and Phillippe, are finalizing deals to become locked and loaded for the series.

In addition to his aforementioned roles, Forte will also executive produce alongside John Solomon and Jorma Taccone, who is also set to direct. Additionally, Lorne Michaels, John Goldwyn, Andrew Singer, and Erin David will also act as executive producers.

Ugh! I feel like a failure right now for never having seen MACGRUBER. That said, this is something I plan to remedy sooner rather than later. From what I've heard, the movie is a laugh-out-loud romp that lampoons some of the most iconic action tropes with smarts and style. That sounds like a hell of a good time to me, and I can't wait to check it out for myself.

Are you a fan of Forte's MacGruber? If so, are stoked to hear that the character is coming back for this own series? Let us know in the comments section below!
