Spenser Confidential, Ozark & Love is Blind huge for Netflix last quarter

Quarantine has pushed many of us towards the various streaming services made available to us but according to their findings from last quarter, no one is killing it quite like Netflix which continues to be firing on all cylinders.

Per "Deadline", the success that Netflix had last quarter is a testament of their power across a variety of entertainment venues in film, TV & unscripted material. It appears that everything Netflix is aiming for, has been deemed pretty successful, giving them an edge over their competitors.

The streamer unveiled stats that their original film SPENSER CONFIDENTIAL, starring Mark Wahlberg & Winston Duke,  snagged a massive 85 million households in the past six weeks since making its debut on March 6. The action comedy follows an ex-cop named Spenser who, after two Boston police officers are murdered, teams up with his no-nonsense roommate, Hawk, to take down criminals.

On the scripted TV front, the third season of Ozark continues to prove the series' popularity. Starring Jason Bateman and Laura Linney, the third season is projected to be watched by 29 million members in its first four weeks. Ozark follows a financial advisor that drags his family from Chicago to the Missouri Ozarks where he must launder money to appease a drug boss.

Even reality television is being dominated by Netflix. The breakthrough unscripted dating show Love is Blind hosted by Nick and Vanessa Lachey, has been viewed by 30 million members since launching as a three week event back in February. The dating series, which has already been renewed for a second season, follows singles who want to be loved for who they are, rather than what they look like. The show guides them through a series of less conventional methods to modern dating.

London-based media analyst Paolo Pescatore, while acknowledging that the streamer should strengthen its content for kids, thinks that Netflix is a service that understands viewing habits:

"Overall, it has plenty to keep the entire household entertained. Arguably, it needs to strengthen its catalogue for kids. Netflix has done a superb job of understanding viewers habits. This has given it the confidence to invest in the next biggest blockbusters. With a broad base of users, it is in a far better position than others to serve all users in households with diverse TV needs.

Netflix had already revealed that Tiger King had attracted a huge amount of viewer attention due to its popularity in pop culture which has soared to 64 million members viewing the offbeat true crime docuseries. Despite all the attention it's getting, some were surprised that it wasn't the most popular title last quarter. Oddly enough, the Spanish language drama Casa de Papel (Money Heist) was seen by 65 million homes, also topping Tiger King.

Netflix, which also announced it added a whopping 15.7 million new paid subscribers during the quarter, thinks its next quarter will prove just a successful. They have Space Force on deck from Greg Daniels and Steve Carell, and another unscripted series Too Hot to Handle, which is likely to gain the same social media following achieved by Love is Blind. The streamer will also premiere Hollywood from Ryan Murphy, and the Chris Hemsworth-starring action film EXTRACTION.

Are YOU surprised by the success Netflix has achieved across film & TV? Will the other streamers be able to compete?
