Sony announces a second Marvel movie coming in 2021. What could it be?

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

In addition to superhero film releases that are set for a 2021 debut like THE BATMAN, THE SUICIDE SQUAD, and SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS, Exhibitor Relations has revealed that a new untitled Sony and Marvel film is poised to be unleashed in theaters on October 8, 2021. As per the announcement, Sony now has a second superhero spectacle waiting to swing into action in 2021 in addition to the studio's sequel to SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME on July 16th.

You do know what this means, right? It means that we get to play a Marvel-themed guessing game! Huzzah! Okay, so if a sequel to SPIDER-MAN: FAR FROM HOME is scheduled to thwip into theaters in July of 2021, one would surmise that Sony and Marvel's mystery release is also related to everyone's favorite neighborhood wall-crawler, no? With that in mind, could it be that this peculiar production is related to the Spider-Man villain Kraven the Hunter? What about Madame Web, who is said to be getting her own spin-off from MORBIUS writers Matt Sazam and Burk Sharpless? Maybe it's a solo adventure featuring Cindy Moon, aka Silk? Oh, perhaps it's a proper Sinister Six film!

For the time being, Sony and Marvel have an Andy Serkis-directed sequel to Tom Hardy's VENOM looking to slither onto screens come October 2, 2020. Though before that, we're getting MORBIUS, starring Jared Leto as Michael Morbius, the Living Vampire. The aforementioned film is set to rise and swoop into theaters on July 31st, which has Daniel Espinosa directing from a script penned by Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless, Art Marcum, and Matt Holloway.

What are your thoughts on this mystery film from Sony and Marvel? Do you think it will be another villain-centric feature, or will the studios team up to bring another hero to the silver screen? Personally, I'd like to see them announce something outside the box of what's expected, though I'm not entirely certain that I'll get my wish. Let us know which Spidey-related characters you'd like to see get their own film in the comments section below!
