A full trailer for DC Universe's SWAMP THING has bubbled up from the muck! As part of the new footage, we find director Len Wiseman's upcoming supernatural superhero series looking like a body horror free-for-all wrapped menacingly around a mystery laid bare by deadly clues. I'm talking about blood-curdling viruses, pod people, corrupt corporations, and all manners of vegetative injutice! Trust me, you'll never look at your Chia Pet-brand "Chia Guy" the same way ever again.
For what's being billed as a hard R-rated romp through the bogs and bilge waters of the DC universe, SWAMP THING centers on CDC researcher Abby Arcane (Crystal Reed). When she returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland (Andy Bean) – only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all.
Directing the upcoming series for DC Universe is Len Wiseman from a script penned by Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman. Leading the series is Andy Bean as biologist Alec Holland, aka Swamp Thing, with Crystal Reed co-starring as CDC Doctor Abby Arcane, Swampy's love interest and a woman gifted with the psychic powers of empathy, telepathy and telekinesis. Also set to appear in the supernatural superhero series are Jennifer Beals, Virginia Madsen, Ian Ziering, Will Patton, Andy Bean, Crystal Reed, Kevin Durand, Henderson Wade, Jeryl Prescott, Maria Sten, and Derek Mears as the Swamp Thing creature. Meanwhile, E.L. Katz will also direct alongside Wiseman.
While DC Universe subscribers will have to wait until May 31st for SWAMP THING to arrive on the subscription-based platform, our own Alex Maidy has already braved the series' murky waters and delivered his full review. While Alex declares that the show perhaps doesn't take full advantage of its title character, it's to be hoped that SWAMP THING's horror and mystery elements will be enough to please those looking to get a bit more out of their DC Universe subscription. Personally, I'm still looking forward to this one, and can't wait to check it out later this month. Go green or go home!
