Halloween’s David Gordon Green in talks to helm Friday Night Lights film

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Word has come down the wire that HALLOWEEN and PINEAPPLE EXPRESS director David Gordon Green is in final negotiations to helm a re-imagined version of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS for Universal Pictures. In the past, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS was adapted into a big screen film in 2004, the property then went on to become an Emmy Award-winning television series that ran from 2006 to 2011.

Based on H.G. Bissinger's book, which profiled the economically depressed town of Odessa, Texas and their heroic high school football team, The Permian High Panthers, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS serves as an inspiring tale built on the foundations of teamwork, determination, and plenty of blood, sweat and tears. The original film was directed by Peter Berg (VERY BAD THINGS, COLLATERAL) and starred Billy Bob Thornton, Lucas Black, Garrett Hedlund, Derek Luke, Jay Hernandez, Lee Jackson, Lee Thompson Young, Time McGraw, and Connie Britton.

As mentioned above, FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS was also converted into a mega-popular TV show that spanned five seasons. The show starred Kyle Chandler, Connie Britton, Aimee Teegarden, Taylor Kitsch, Minka Kelly, Brad Leland, Zach Gifford, and Adrianne Palicki.

Are you willing to huddle around yet another adaptation of FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS? Would you rather watch Oliver Stone's ANY GIVEN SUNDAY instead? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below … and BREAK!
