The last we heard about the Eli Roth produced COTTON it was making it’s way to the South by SouthWest Festival. That was last week. It seems a lot can change in a week.
According to Variety not only has COTTON found a home but it’s also undergoing a name change! It seems Lionsgate just scored the US distribution rights to THE LAST EXORCISM, which was previously known as… you guessed it, COTTON! Lionsgate’s prexy of acquisitions and co-productions Jason Constantine voiced his opinion of the pick-up:
“It’s always great to work with our friend Eli, who has played a key role in establishing Lionsgate in the vanguard of the horror genre. ‘The Last Exorcism’ feels as close to a real exorcism as anyone would ever want to get — audiences are going to find this movie scary as, well, hell.”
THE LAST EXORCISM comes from director Daniel Stamm and stars Patrick Fabian, Ashley Bell, Iris Bahr, Louis Herthum, Caleb Landry Jones and Jamie Alyson Caudle (below). Here’s the synopsis: After a career spent helping the devout through prayer and trickery, Rev. Cotton Marcus invites a film crew to document his final fraudulent days as an exorcist. Soon his faith is truly tested when a desperate plea from the father of a possessed girl brings him face to face with the devil himself.
In other Eli Roth news, the same article from Variety states Mr. Roth will be producing another film in the near future, a psychological thriller called THE OTHER WOMAN. THE OTHER WOMAN will be written and directed by Huck Botko and Andrew Gurland, who just so happen to be the same duo that penned THE LAST EXORCISM. Always good to keep it in the family, right? THE OTHER WOMAN is about a scorned mistress who makes a film for her ex-lover and is looking to start shooting next Spring. Roth adds that the film will deliver “”the worst nightmares of those who have had extramarital affairs, and the sickest fantasies of those who have been scorned.”
