BEHIND THE MASK: THE RISE OF LESLIE VERNON
– June 26th

What better way to celebrate the Saw’s 100th issue than this flick: a tribute to anyone who’s ever wanted to be a serial killer. Not a REAL serial killer, of course, but a serial killer idol from the 80s. Watch how Leslie Vernon turns from everyday schmoe into a machete wielding psychopath in just a few easy steps! Now I just can’t decide if I like her shirt, or her shorts better…

    GHOST RIDER [UPDATE]

We found out a few Saw’s back that Nic Cage and his blazing alter ego (and hair piece) were quickly slamming onto DVD- and now we have the details. In both rated and unrated/extended cuts, Sony is looking to cash in on DVD what they more than gained in theaters. At least the cover graces the presence of Eva Mendes, who’s the only reason I would even think about checking this out. In my next life, I’m gonna come back as a thong…

  • Theatrical version of the film
  • “Spirit of Vengeance: The Making of Ghost Rider” documentary
  • Film commentary with director/writer Mark Steven Johnson and VFX Supervisor Kevin Mack

NIGHT OF THE WEREWOLF – May 8th

There’s something about spaghetti horror flicks that yank my crank the right way- and this is no exception. Featuring one Paul Naschy in the roles that made him famous (and yes, apparently this guy’s famous), this flick is rocking the casbah in luscious unrated form. Werewolves and mummies in one package? Count me in. And I know what you’re thinking- just what do those paw print tattoos mean…?

    The Goods:

  • Widescreen (1.85:1) Ratio
  • Anamorphically Enhanced, with Original Castilian Audio
  • Dubbed English Track
  • Video Introduction by Paul Naschy (in Castilian with English subtitles)
  • International Theatrical Trailer
  • Original Spanish-language Opening and Closing Credit Sequences
  • Extensive Still Gallerys
  • Liner Notes from Noted Paul Naschy Expert Mirek Lipinski.

VENGEANCE OF THE ZOMBIES – May 8th

Since we’re rocking the werewolves, then it’s only right that we hit up a few zombies while we’re at it. Pick them both up and create your own grindhouse double-feature, as Zombie & Werewolves go together about as well as schoolgirls and knee-high socks.

    The Goods:

  • Full-screen (1.33:1) Ratio
  • Original Castilian Audio
  • Dubbed English Track
  • Video Introduction by Paul Naschy (in Castilian with English subtitles)
  • International Theatrical Trailer
  • Original Spanish-Language Opening and Closing Credit Sequences
  • An Alternate “clothed” Versions of the Nude Scenes Used for the Original Spanish Theatrical Release

    EL TOPO – May 1st

To talk about this film, one must take a look at the tagline: See the naked young Franciscans whipped with cactus. See the bandit leader disemboweled. See the priest ride into the sunset with a midget and her newborn baby. What it all means isn’t exactly clear, but you won’t forget it. Man, I haven’t even seen this flick, and I don’t think I’ll be able to forget it! Fellow knucklehead Scotty C. told me he was never the same after watching this… in fact, he lost his mind right then and there. Which is a shame, because the beautiful vixen below probably looks like deranged rat-monkey to him. Yes, it’s a sad, sad day, indeed.

    The Goods:

  • Exclusive Interview with Director Alejandro Jodorowsky
  • Original Theatrical Trailer
  • 2006 on-camera interview with Jodorowsky
  • Photo Gallery and Original Script Excerpts

    DVD Covers:

    Honorable Mentions:

    BLOODLINES
–July 21st – Because leather, whips, chains and lots and lots of rope were used in the making of this picture.

    HAUNTED FOREST –June 26th – Because it’s about this chick… who’s a tree… with evil powers… but really, she’s a tree… that can walk… scared already, aren’t ya?

    THE TOMB
    –June 19th –
Because that scene in KILL BILL VOL. 2, where she’s buried alive, gave me claustrophobia for a week straight, and just looking at the above cover gave me chills that lasted 4 minutes. No joke- 4 MINUTES!!!!

That’s all for this week! Stay tuned every week for your latest DVD news, and as always, feel free to shoot me an email ([email protected]
