Denis Villeneuve’s adaptation of Frank Herbert’s Dune has finally arrived and, in my opinion, it’s more than worthy of the hype. One fan of the film is none other than Christopher Nolan, who praised Dune while speaking alongside Villeneuve for The Director’s Cut podcast.

It’s one of the most seamless marriages of live-action photography and computer-generated visual effects that I’ve seen. It’s very, very compelling at every turn.

Christopher Nolan continued praising Dune: “Your entire team did an absolutely incredible job. I think this film is going to introduce a whole new generation of fans to ‘Dune’ who have never read the book or encourage fans to go read the book. I think it’s an incredible piece of work. I’ve had the luxury of seeing it a couple of times now, and each time I watch it I discover new things, new details to the world. The way in which it’s made is for the big screen. It’s a real pleasure and a real gift to film fans everywhere.” It’s always fun to hear directors sing each other’s praises; they’re just like us! Villeneuve previously had similar praise for Tenet, telling ReelBlend podcast that Nolan’s film was a “masterpiece” and an “incredible cinematic achievement.

As we know, Dune doesn’t tell the whole story of Paul Atreides, but Warner Bros. and Legendary finally announced Dune: Part Two earlier today. “I just received news from Legendary that we are officially moving forward with Dune: Part Two,” Denis Villeneuve said in a statement. “It was a dream of mine to adapt Frank Herbert’s Dune and I have the fans, the cast, and crew, Legendary and Warner Bros. to thank for supporting this dream. This is only the beginning.Dune is now playing in theaters and streaming on HBO Max, so be sure to check out a review from our own Chris Bumbray right here.
