Adam Driver Passes on Marvel

The Marvel Universe has such an impressive collection of acting talent from Robert Downey Jr. to Don Cheadle to Cate Blanchett to Tilda Swinton to Christian Bale. Even older school movie stars such as Michael Douglas and Robert Redford have joined the vast universe of stars. However, there are also a handful of acclaimed actors who are seemingly just uninterested in partaking in the juggernaut franchise. Among them is Adam Driver. Although he is no stranger to big franchises as one of the stars of the sequel trilogy in the Star Wars series, Driver is said to pass on a Marvel role every time he’s offered one.

MCU head Kevin Feige recently appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, where he revealed he has an unrelenting interest in working with Driver on a Marvel project. Inversely, Driver has made clear how he feels to Feige, although he will always take a call from him. According to Deadline, Feige said,

It’s no secret we’d like to [work with Driver]. But it’s a tradition to Zoom with him, and then he passes. That’s a long-lived tradition.”

Despite Driver’s ultimate decisions, Feige made sure to note that he “couldn’t be more cordial” in every call and that “He’s usually upfront about how he is feeling.”

This anecdote comes just as rumors are circulating that Driver may have a role in the upcoming X-Men reboot in the MCU. He is said to be up for parts like Magneto, William Stryker or Mr. Sinister.

Feige and Blade Failure

While Feige was on the podcast, he also would get candid about his feelings on not being able to make the MCU Blade movie with Mahershala Ali. Happy Sad Confused host, Josh Horowitz, asked Feige about why it failed to get made and how he felt about the whole situation. Feige replied, “I’m feeling very excited that we got Wesley back for a time in Deadpool & Wolverine and like a gigantic loser and failure that we didn’t get off the ground with Mahershala.”

Horowitz concluded with an X-Men question, asking how many characters have been cast. He asks, “Have people signed on?” Feige replies simply, “Not necessarily.”
