Dolph Lundgren, one of our most beloved action stars, is the subject of a new documentary that reflects on his life and career. But things took a serious turn during production when Lundgren was diagnosed with kidney cancer and told he only had a few more years to live. Thankfully, Lundgren announced last year that he was cancer-free, but the trailer for Dolph: Unbreakable documents his emotional journey. You can check that out above.
Dolph: Unbreakable
Featuring interviews with Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and more, the documentary explores the experiences that shaped Lundgren, including childhood trauma, chronic injuries and a battle with cancer, while following his determination to overcome adversity, all through rare home videos, archival photographs, career footage and intimate interviews.
“They came to me back in 2020 during COVID, and we started shooting footage,” Lundgren told Entertainment Weekly. “At that point I’d done almost a hundred movies, so I felt I had a pretty interesting story. And then I get this cancer diagnosis in 2020, and everything was upended. I didn’t tell the documentary team about it for a while, but it wasn’t looking too good. So, in 2021, I told them that maybe we should focus a little bit on that because I may not be around for the premiere of this thing.“
When Can We Watch It?
Dolph: Unbreakable will premiere on October 6 in the U.S. on VOD and all digital platforms, but it will also debut on Super Channel Fuse in Canada on October 16 at 9 p.m. ET.
“Dolph: Unbreakable takes audiences beyond the action hero we think we know to reveal the extraordinary person behind the icon,” said Kim Ball, EVP, Content & Communications, Super Channel. “Dolph Lundgren’s story is one of resilience, strength and the determination to keep moving forward in the face of extraordinary challenges. We’re thrilled to bring this deeply personal film to Canadian audiences.“
Additionally, Lundgren’s new memoir, Fights Worth Fighting: Finding Strength in Struggle, will be published by Harper Horizon on September 22.
