Adam Sandler sings touching tribute to Chris Farley on SNL

Adam Sandler sang a touching tribute to his late friend and SNL co-star Chris Farley last night. 

After livening up the room with his song about why he was fired and cheering the revival of "Opera Man", the Saturday Night Live host closed out the show by paying his respects to his old friend, a phenomenal actor who sadly died in 1997 from an accidental overdose of cocaine and morphine. Farley was only 33 years old when he passed.

Sandler shared some personal memories of his friend in the song. 

“He was a one man party/You know who I’m talking about, I’m talking about my friend Chris Farley,” the song, which Sandler originally performed on his Netflix special “100% Fresh,” began. Photos of Farley and clips of the pair performing on “SNL” appeared on a screen behind Sandler as he played.

The song Sandler sang described some of Farley’s most-loved characters and sketches, including Matt Foley, Cindy Crawford, and Todd O’Connor. It also touched on Farley’s alcohol and drug use with lyrics like: “We’d tell him, ‘Son, you’ll end up like Belushi and Candy/He said, ‘Those guys are my heroes, that’s all fine and dandy.’ I ain’t makin’ that stuff up, that’s the truth about my boy Chris Farley.”

Sandler visibly chokes up during his performance when he recalls the moment he saw Farley in the office crying as he listened to a song by KC and the Sunshine Band. When Sandler asked why the song was making him sad, Farley said it reminded him of his dad.
