The Lord of The Rings: Amazon Prime Video reveals series title & teases tales of the Second-Age

Amazon Prime Video has unveiled the official title for their series adaptation of The Lord of the Rings and they did so with a very splashy video preview that teases tales of the Second-Age.

The series will be titled The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power and the show will bring to the screen for the very first time J.R.R. Tolkien’s Second Age of Middle-Earth’s history. Beginning in a time of relative peace, the show will follow characters both familiar and new as they confront the long-feared re-emergence of evil to Middle-Earth. Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay had this to say about the series:

“This is a title that we imagine could live on the spine of a book next to J.R.R. Tolkien’s other classics. The Rings of Power unites all the major stories of Middle-earth’s Second Age: the forging of the rings, the rise of the Dark Lord Sauron, the epic tale of Númenor, and the Last Alliance of Elves and Men. Until now, audiences have only seen on-screen the story of the One Ring – but before there was one, there were many… and we’re excited to share the epic story of them all.”

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is set in the Second Age of Middle Earth, thousands of years before the events of the Lord of the Rings films and novels. The cast is headlined by Cynthia Addai-Robinson, Robert Aramayo, Owain Arthur, Maxim Baldry, Nazanin Boniadi, Morfydd Clark, Ismael Cruz Córdova, Charles Edwards, Trystan Gravelle, Sir Lenny Henry, Ema Horvath, Markella Kavenagh, Joseph Mawle, Tyroe Muhafidin, Sophia Nomvete, Lloyd Owen, Megan Richards, Dylan Smith, Charlie Vickers, Leon Wadham, Benjamin Walker, Daniel Weyman, and Sara Zwangobani.

Will YOU be watching The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power? The series hits Amazon Prime Video on September 2, 2022.
